The Role
Hays has been a great placement to have and whilst being tough and occasionally stressful I have learnt an incredible amount from this position. The environment is predominantly sales driven and so is a very target orientated organisation which suits some people better than others however all of your colleagues are extremely flexible and understanding which makes the position extremely enjoyable. The people make this job.
The team that I was placed within has been great and have / will support me constantly. From day 1 you are given as much responsibility as most other full time employees which creates a great atmosphere and respectful environment to work within.
I cannot fault my management on the support that was offered to my during my internship. It is a clear ethos of Hays that so long as you are shown to be putting in effort Hays will support / guide you in any way they feel necessary to nurture the best success they can.
Recruitment is a target driven industry and Hays is no exception to this trend. The expectations for each day are laid out very clearly and you are expected to hit these on a regular basis. The targets however are always realistic whilst keeping you occupied for the whole day.
The level of responsibility that I was given pretty much from day 1 from joining Hays was rarely different from any other of the permanent employees. The fact that they treat their interns no differently to how they treat the associates is rewarding to all the interns as they feel valued and can clearly assess the impact they are having on the business.
The skills that I have been taught, developed and refined whilst I have interned at Hays will have an incredible impact on my future career and education. The placement has taught me the value of speed and efficiency and having worked in recruitment and interviewing candidates on a daily basis will provide me with a great foundation for interviewing in my final year at Uni.
The Company
Being a salesfloor the atmosphere is great. People are constantly on the phones and deals are regularly being celebrated which creates an atmosphere that drives many individuals to perform to the best of their ability and shows you clearly who the top performers are. The culture is very much "work hard play hard" and there is always a chance to socialise with colleagues.
The intern programme at Hays is fast becoming an integral part of each team and have more than proven their worth to the business over the past few years. for the first few months there is a clear structure for interns to follow which teaches the basics of selling and also Hays as an organisation. Further training is very much "on the job" which is facilitated well by the relevant managers.
From my personal experience I was heavily invested in. Having had some bad luck in the first 6 months my management team were successfully able to identify my strengths and create an environment that enabled me to prosper in a fast pace environment.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Over the year I was able to identify that recruitment is not my strength and therefore were considering other opportunities. However in the past few months I have been nurtured and am performing very well which definitely presents Hays as a potential employment option.
The Culture
The social opportunities within this placement are unparalleled.
I chose to commute in due to the cost of living in London being too high.
N/A
There are regular opportunities to get involved with different activities at Hays. There are often Charitable sporting events which are always enjoyable and are also plenty of other sociable events including end of year parties etc.
