The Role
My manager and I had monthly meetings where we would discuss my current work load, future plans within my role and discuss any support and guidance I needed to make me exceed within my role. I felt this was beneficial and gave me confidence working with stakeholders. My colleagues provided me with feedback during my tasks, which meant I was able to work on areas of improvement and maintain my strengths.
My role has peaks and low point in regards to workload. Some weeks I am very busy and sometimes and have to control the amount of work I ham working on to make sure it is done efficiently and accurately and at other times I will have to ask my team for tasks I can pick up as I will be quiet. However, my team are always willing to share areas of work with me to make sure I am developing myself and my knowledge before going back to university
Within the first few months of my placement I was leading the company wide project for the site! Amongst that, I have been held accountable for various tasks and pieces of work.
My manager and I have discussed regularly throughout the year what skills I currently have, what I am looking to develop and area's to focus on to improve within my role. We also discussed the skills I will need to develop within my future HR career. So, my manager placed me on projects and pieces of work to develop the skills I recognised I wanted to develop and learn from During my placement my university assignment was to work through a portfolio demonstrating the various skills I had developed over the year. This worked well and structured my placement.
The Company
As my first office role, i didn't know what to expect- the office is very professional, it can be busy at times with employees in the meeting room and coming to visit for advice.
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
I will be applying for the HR graduate scheme with EDF Energy.
The Culture
My team and I did lots of socialising outside of work, this included night out's in Newcastle and Durham and going for meals at restaurants for people's birthdays!
The cost of living is really cheap, with good socialising areas
The town itself has a good nightlife, however it is surronded by different areas such as Yarm, Durham and Newcastle which are easy to get to and have a better nightlife.
EDF Energy has a range of volunteering schemes to get involved in
