The Role
I have not enjoyed this placement year whatsoever. It is hard to put in to words why working at L'Oreal [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is as bad as it is without experiencing it for yourself, but there is an extremely toxic and unpleasant company culture, which combined with the monotonous and dull job role leads to an unpleasant experience. I would strongly advise those seeking a year in industry to look elsewhere.
By my immediate team I did feel valued. Outside of this, not valued at all.
I had different managers where my level of support varied greatly. On the whole though you are given very little support and it is certainly a sink or swim place to work.
Work/Life balance is something that L'Oreal does not understand. This goes across all levels of the company, not just interns. Everyone is consistently too busy, which creates constant panic and drives any little remaining enjoyment out.
Again, this varied greatly. In some areas I was given quite a lot of responsibility which I'll be able to talk about after this placement, but a lot of my job role was also posting and organising cupboards.
Very little. I feel like I have learnt more about dealing with 'challenging' colleagues and coping with work at a company like L'Oreal than about marketing.
The Company
Toxic, hostile, uncomfortable. For the earlier mentioned reasons, nobody really appears to enjoy their role which leads to a constantly difficult environment.
Not organised whatsoever. Once you have started, that is it, no structure at all throughout the year.
No investment at all. Everything learnt this year has been self taught, sought out from opportunities myself or taken from insights from members of my team.
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
No employment prospects whatsoever. And I would encourage others to seriously consider employment prospects with L'Oreal prior to joining.
The Culture
Amongst a small group, yes, but on the whole, not at all.
Very expensive (but then it is London).
Poor, would have to travel in to central for anything other than pubs.
Nothing whatsoever, but then the nature of the company does not lend itself to wanting to spend time with L'Oreal outside of work. It's also something I am sure L'Oreal are not particularly keen on, they are far more concerned with working their taskforce in to the ground.
