The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my year and I will be very sad to leave. My role as a whole and the experience of living in London and having all the work socials has been amazing. I have made friends for life and I genuinely believe I have grown as a person. I cannot wait to move back to London after university.
My team never ever treated me like an 'intern', I have become a hugely integral member of the team and they do not fail to remind me of this on a regular basis. They gave me responsibility of tasks and then would always credit this to me, letting others know how much of a good job I was doing.
I have always been reassured knowing that my manager has my back in all circumstances, and has constantly been encouraging my development. He would purposely set me tasks so that I would grow my skills, and take time out of his day to give me one on one training sessions on subjects I am interested in.
Work was slow at the beginning and there were times when I was slightly bored because of the nature of my role not being "urgent" all time. However I became very busy towards the end - but never too much that I felt like I had to stay until 8pm+ unlike other interns.
I lead my own project the whole time and had the opportunity to get involved with many different projects. I had to run meetings with digital managers from throughout the business which was scary but it really helped my confidence and was a great experience. I was even the sole manager of one of our agencies.
I am hugely grateful for the skills that I have developed as I feel they are very specialised and all companies need them. I have already set up a project for myself, external of L'Oreal, where I will transfer the valuable skills and knowledge I have gained whilst at on placement.
The Company
The atmosphere was more relaxed than I was expecting - I was able to go for a cup of tea whenever I wanted, having a catch up with friends. It is very friendly within my teams, and there is always some light chit chat going on. Some other floors seem a bit more stressed than ours.
The placement team themselves are not that organised to be honest! I had a few issues before I got here for example there was miscommunications between the admissions process about my application, and it took about 5 months to be refunded my travel on the day of the assessment center. There have been a few other examples throughout the year also.
We had a few training sessions from HR at the beginning such as prioritising and time management which was helpful - however, we were told we would receive this on a monthly basis but this did not happen at all. My team themselves invested in my development a lot more than the firm did.

For me personally they are not that great as I having been in Digital for the year and the Graduate Scheme is in marketing. However, in general it is a really good process to apply for the graduate scheme as you apply during your last few weeks of work and you find out before you leave if you have got onto it, which means some people will be safe in their final year of uni with a grad job guaranteed.
The Culture
The social scene was incredible. I've made some friends that I know will be friends for life! There are so many interns it's like being back at school again, meeting for lunch in the canteen and having a gossip! We had a Social Sec like you do at the committees at university and she managed to arrange sooo many free nights out at London clubs with free entry and drinks and sometimes food!
Cost of living is high but with student loan it is manageable. There are places slightly further out which will be cheaper and just remember that we are still students so we really do not need to be in luxury living. We lived a ten minute walk and paid 650 without bills so that was pretty good and very convenient. Socialising in London is of course really expensive but so much funner than anywhere else.
Nightlife is better in East London to be honest - west London all the clubs are pretty pretentious and sexist, however with work nights it is all free so you cannot really complain. There are many nice bars/clubs in central London of course which is not far at all. East London is doable but quite a trek!
There were not many opportunities outside of socialising to be honest. There was one trip to Butlins to help out at an event, and a few other opportunities to help at events. There is supposed to be a charity day where you have a day off to help out a charity, but our internship timings meant that somehow we missed it altogether which was a shame.
