The Role
When is started at first i was quiet nervous. But when i got into the rhythm of workings at Caterpillar i felt great. the atmosphere around me was always positive.
I felt valued from day one. Every colleague that i work with are always positive. good vibes across the rooms.
I'm always given support. i find it very easy to ask for help directly from my supervisor and also able to ask other people for help.
I would say a bit busy. theirs always something to do. Some days its really quiet nothing much to do.
At the start not that much. but couple months in i was given control of the site i was working at, dealing with all the issues.
The skills that i have been able to develop while I've been working here will 100% help in the future. i am now able to talk to anyone with confidence. i will now know how to solve complex issues.
The Company
The general atmosphere in my office was great. even though there are only two of us in the IT office. we would discuss what needs to be done that day and also just talk about general stuff. With the other colleagues it was fun talking with them as well as they are positive.
The organisation set up of the work placement / internship was excellent. the first day i got into work, i already had my desk setup along with my PC and laptop. all of my user names that i require were set up. all of the necessary accounts that i needed to do my IT job was all set up too.
For training and development i was given these online courses / training to complete which were very helpful. also the company would send me down to another location in the UK using one of their company cars (and fuel card) to get to know how the working environment is in another location.

The future employment prospect of working at caterpillar is very appealing. as i have had an insight in almost every role that is included in IT at Caterpillar. so i will 100% be applying for a job in the future at Caterpillar. talking to people that are in those roles seem to be very happy with their job which always shows assurance.
The Culture
There was not many events that we had with each other. i rarely got to see the other placement students. i only every saw them all once, even though we talk a lot via email. but you do get to go to a Christmas dinner with the colleagues in your location.
I was not living in the location i was working at. i would have to drive thirty plus miles five days a week for a year so it would be very expensive on fuel and it all adds up. so i would not know the cost living near my location. i guessing you would have to live near the city centre and then get the train.
the area i work is in a industrial park so the night life here is not exciting at all. there nothing to do here for obvious reasons. but you could always go to the city centre from here. there is also a huge shopping centre that is twenty minutes away from where i work.
opportunities to get involved outside of work were always high. you will never have to take work home. you start at 9 and finish at 4:15 and that is it, work ends there. and you can do whatever you do on normal day when off work. he only work you will have to do would be the university work that should be given you you.
