The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Hays, the work is rewarding and the staff have been great. There are long hours involved however as you're kept busy you don't notice the day pass at all. The area of work that I am operating in relates to some aspects of my degree which I think will help with my course in the future
I felt very valued within my team, a lot of the work that I was doing was assisting with the work of other members of the team, therefore I felt like I was contributing to the overall output of the team when working. A lot of the knowledge that I had gained through university also helped me to help my team and provide support where it may not have been available otherwise.
I was helped a great deal by my manager, especially at the beginning of the year when I was still very new to the role, organization and market that I was operating in. She provided expert advice whenever I asked for it but also left me to work on my own and develop my own personal skills also.
I was kept very busy on a daily basis. Although the working hours were longer than any of my previous jobs, the days went in a lot quicker than them also just due to the fact that I was kept so busy most of the time. Any time I found myself without much to do, all I had to do was say to one of the team members and they would have plenty of things I could work on with them.
I was given a good deal of responsibility during my placement. I was doing things that any other member of staff would normally do day to day, such as speak to key clients and service users, handle sensitive information, perform tasks/interviews/etc on my own and also left to my own devices to keep up to date with my workload and KPIs
I believe I have greatly developed my personal skills during my placement, there is a lot that I can take away from this year in the workplace and apply it to my degree next year. I'm looking forward to beginning my final year so that I can put these skills I have gained to good use. I think any job I go into following this will require me to use the skills I have gained this year.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was first of all very friendly and helpful, during my first few weeks I had many people come up and introduce themselves and ask how I'm finding things etc. There was of course a very professional feel to the office and during peak times of the day everyone is very busy however everyone had high spirits throughout the day and got on well with everyone.
My placement was very well organized. During my first day and initial few weeks I had a lot of learning to do about the role, the organization and market that I'm working in. This was all set up and ready to go for my start with Hays. Training in England was arranged and attended, and daily activities were never in shortage so I had plenty to keep me busy.
The organization invested a good bit in my training and development, and offered to invest more if I wanted to. I attended training events in England during my first few weeks of placement, with constant training/development drives with other senior business managers taking place at different stages of the year.

I could definitely see myself working here again in the future, at the moment I'm still uncertain about what direction to take my career in after graduation however I have got a good understanding of the recruitment market and what it takes to succeed. If there is an opportunity down the line for me to return and I feel confident in my choice of career I would love to come back.
The Culture
Yes there is quite a young workforce in the office and everyone got on well with each other. Team lunches / nights out were arranged fairly often and there was even a foosball table set up in the canteen for lunch time entertainment. Even just having a chat with someone in the kitchen when making tea contributed to the overall sociability of the office.
Cost of living wasn't too dear, probably spent more than I should have on lunch though.
There is an active nightlife in the city that I worked in, but all of the good nights out were generally during the week when I had to work so my social life went down hill a bit following starting my placement. Which is to be expected to be fair seeing as the rest of my friends were still in university and going out during the week.
Not many, the odd night out
