The Role
I've really enjoyed my time with Hays - from the people, the day to day duties and the excitement of working within a large, corporate office in the City of London. My placement year was enjoyable yet challenging at times due to the sales/target based nature of the role, but it really is a rewarding, work hard play hard environment.
Throughout the placement, my colleagues always treated me like a full-time member of staff and eventually gave me full responsibility in my position once ready. I felt valued both socially and professionally and really felt like an integrated member of the team.
I was given good support from management throughout the placement and they were happy to answer any questions I had. The professional training provided was also a bonus, including guidance on the system and in dealing with clients.
Very busy. Phones never stop ringing and the role also includes duties such as meeting candidates and clients on a daily basis (just to mention a few).
I was given a large amount of autonomy with my work including dealing with my own clients and recruiting my own jobs. The training and guidance from management means you're well equipped to take responsibility of your own workload. Not a tea and coffee placement!
The skills developed on this placement will benefit me greatly in terms of work ethic and hours I spend on my final year dissertation! This role also makes you think more commercially and more confident in speaking with senior management and senior professionals in large businesses. I'll definitely take away a wide range of skills and knowledge which can be applied to any position in the future.
The Company
My office was a loud, energetic sales floor environment and was rarely quiet (everyone either on the phone or liaising internally). The London office is huge meaning there is always a buzz.
Really well organised from the application and interview process to the 'aftercare' meetings once started to ensure I was still enjoying it/settling in well. The process of starting was smooth and I time from the initial phone interview to the assessment centre and offer was extremely quick.
Hays really invest in your personal development, most notably through the training courses provided - from lunch time learning to 3 day intensive courses with other placement students.
