The Role
I've really enjoyed my placement year. From day one I was given real responsibilities and treated like a colleague. The team I've worked with have been incredibly encouraging and supportive. Its a very fast paced environment to work in and can be very stressful and challenging, but its during those times that I've learnt the most.
Very valued - you're really treated like a colleague not an intern. Everyone's very friendly and encouraging. A lot of them were interns at L'Oreal themselves so they understand what its like and are keen to help boost you up and get you exposure to the right people
My team were really supportive and my line manager was always checking in with me to check how I was getting on and offer advice and guidance at any time
Very busy, the days fly by because there's always things to be done and urgent tasks are always cropping up. It can be very stressful at times but always interesting
A lot! The amount of responsibility you're given from the get go can be pretty daunting, but its amazing what you discover what you're capable of when you're thrown in at the deep end. They're also very receptive to how much effort you put in -- if you can demonstrate you can be trusted and work hard, you will be given more important tasks to manage.
The skills I've developed will undoubtedly help my studies hugely. My communication, prioritisation and time management skills will make me far more efficient with my studies going into my final year and in my future career. I'd say the biggest and most important development is my self confidence; the amount this has grown in my placement year will definitely make me more open to trying new things and applying for jobs I would have previously shied away from.
The Company
Fun, fast paced. Always lots going on and a definite buzz in the office
Very well organised, lots of support available
There were several training opportunities and a dedicated online learning portal
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Very appealing, although sadly there's no grad scheme stream for merchandising, which is the area I'm interested in
The Culture
Yes there's a lot of other interns/grads and a social sec who organises regular social events
Its London so its expensive - rent, travel & going out all cost more than the rest of the country but its an exciting place to live and work.
There's a couple of pubs that everyone goes to after work, other than that I didn't really go out in the area
Yes there's dedicated social sec who organises nights out. There's a lot of team drinks etc.
