    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at L'Oreal! It's a company that truly believes nothing it impossible and presents to you many opportunities and challenges that force to think smart and act quick. The fast-paced culture and determination to execute everything with excellence forces you to up your game. From working efficiently to perfecting your attention, L'Oreal is a place where you will either sink or swim. It's definitely true that the more you put in, the more you will get out of it, being rewarded with real responsibility and opportunity to lead large projects when you demonstrate your successes.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Being part of small teams means everyone needs to pull their weight. You'll often have fewer heads than you need to get through the workload, so learning fast, working together to find efficiencies and pulling one another through periods of intense workload and longer days means you develop a strong bond with your team and brand. You'll be surrounded by inspiring and innovative people who share your love for beauty, so listen and opens your mind to new ways of thinking. If you fully immerse yourself within the brand, bringing new ideas or updates and are willing to assist everyone within your team when needed, you will be valued by all of your colleagues.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Support and guidance is always available at L'Oreal. Whether you choose to seek the support through HR or directly through your manager during your 1-1 catch ups, support and advice will always been given in plenty. Everyone started as an intern at some point and many of the people within your team will have been interns at L'Oreal, so their knowledge and advice will be invaluable and you should take the opportunity to ask questions and use them as a resource for your own career development.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • L'Oreal is fast-paced and the days can be often been intense. Staying on top of your to-do list and ensuring that your priorities for each day are complete is an essential for success. There will be times when you are required to work longer hours, but if you show willing and want to take ownership of large projects you'll make the sacrifice.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • L'Oreal presents many opportunities for you to take ownership of your work. When you're part of a small team delivering many launches and deadlines, you will be relied on upon to do your part. If you rise to the challenge you will be rewarded with more responsibility. During my time, I did 3 launches independently, looked after a sub brand for four months in the absence of a Product Manager, took over social channels for two brands and was responsible for creating and delivering Christmas 2016.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The tools and training that I have learnt at L'Oreal will certainly prepare me for the my return to University and beyond. Improving my work efficiency, understanding of the beauty industry and the many processes involved in creating materials, to being confident in providing innovative and creative solutions, my year at L'Oreal has definitely put me in a stronger position as I approach my final year of university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The L'Oreal office is one filled with aspiration and a culture of delivering excellence. The atmosphere in the office with the brands that I am a part of is high energy and fun. We usually have music playing, people talking and sharing jokes and the freedom to bounce ideas around.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship is very well structured and organised. At any point you experience problems there is always someone to talk to.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • L'Oreal provide many opportunities to develop both personally and professionally. Their encouragement of networking means coffee catch ups and meeting new people are a frequent occurrence. There are opportunities to develop and learn new skills through online programmes and many extra curricular activities that you can become involved with.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • L'Oreal does provide a graduate MT programme which means that there is the possibility to remain within the company should you wish. Many people within the company has been here since being an intern and international scale of the organisation means that many people also relocate for periods of time to other areas around the world, mostly Paris, Australia and New York.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Each year there is social sec who coordinates intern nights out for everyone. Usually on a Thursday in either Kensington or Central London, they guarantee for a good night out! You'll get to experience some very exclusive clubs for just a fraction of the cost.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being in London the cost of the living (rent, travel, bills, food) is of course more expensive than in other areas of the UK and whilst it can be afforded, having spare cash to go for dinner, drinks and take part in other social activities can feel more restricted. My advice would be to take your student loan even though you will be earning and to spend wisely!

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Intern nights out happened every couple of weeks and are a definite must attend event. They're a great opportunity to escape from work and it's pressure. Whilst you may not be able to afford going out every week, the opportunity to experience some of London's most Made In Chelsea spots for a very low cost should not be missed.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes
