The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year at SAP, its taught me a great deal of skills that I can transfer into my final year at university and into my future job roles. One of the most important things I've taken out of my year is the networking that I have done around the whole business.
From day one I immediately felt like a member of the team. After my training period I was treated like a normal employee and not like an intern which made me feel like my opinion mattered and that my point of view would be taken seriously, which I feel is an extremely important aspect of a placement year.
The first month of my placement was hugely beneficial to my development at SAP. The previous interns went through all of the basic processes and set up training sessions with different members of the team so we could learn from their experiences. After the month we were split into different teams and from then on gained valuable help and advice from my team.
My day to day role differed everyday which meant that I was always intrigued and excited about the different projects that I would be involved. I believe that my placement at SAP has given me a true indication into what a full time job will be like after university, in terms of the amount of hours you need to put in to be successful.
I was given alot of responsibility throughout my time at SAP. I was given the responsibiltiy for a number of different projects that I have led and then fedback to the other members within the team. This has led to me presented on a number of occasions which I believed has really improved my verbal communication and presenting skills which will hold me in good stead for my final year at university.
As previously stated above I believe that my skills have developed immensely. The two skills that I believe have improved the most are my time management and written communications skills because the role I was in demanded high organsiational skills and relied on good written communication.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was positive, but changed dependent on the time of the year or quarter. The atmosphere in my department however was always bubbly and positive which has really impacted the way I view my team and the way we work.
The placement was set up well, and its been an integral part of the set up of the business for a number of years which has led to a number of improvements which has benefited my placement year.

This is one thing that SAP really invest in. There is an early talent scheme where they try and recruit as many previous interns as they can aswell as having a Sales and PreSales academy.
The Culture
There was 43 placement students in my year, which has led to a huge amount of social activities being organised throughout the year.
