The Role
Deciding to do a placement year at Hays has proved to be a worth-while decision. I have gained a wealth of industry knowledge, enjoyed the social aspect of Hays and been given valuable office experience.
At Hays, Interns are treated as an embedded member of each department.
Within our department seating plan, I am seated next to my manager. This gives me the opportunity to have any queries answered quickly and also means I am constantly on track with what is expected of me.
Hays has a fast paced work culture, which means I am normally busy every day. This was the type of work culture I was looking for when I decided to do a placement year.
The amount of responsibility I have been given on my placement year has increased along with my confidence carrying out day to day tasks. I have attended important meetings with a range of clients, been responsible for arranging interview days and designed application packs.
Hays is unique in the respect that they offer a considerably large amount of training for new starters. The skills I have developed are time-management, organisation, communication skills and industry knowledge, which I feel will only enhance my final year at University.
The Company
The atmosphere at Hays is very optimistic. The office area is very lively and it is constantly reiterated that people are working towards the same goal
The whole placement has been extremely organised. From the open day to the interview stage, I was constantly informed about what was the next step.
Hays invested a considerable amount of training resources for their new interns, both in training rooms and on the computer.
Company Parties/Events
Hays has a range of opportunities for graduates
The Culture
There was a good social scene for interns as a group but also across the floor in which I work in. We are rewarded with drinks vouchers at the nearby pub for hitting a collective target on our floor. This only increases motivation across the floor.
The cost was slightly more expensive than University, but this was expected being in London. Also when you are earning money it is less of an issue,
Everyone at work often goes for drinks on Fridays to socialise.
There are arranged activities for departments if targets are met.
