The Role
I had a fantastic year with supportive colleagues, a lot of responsibility and a great insight into a very successful corporate business.
During my placement I was lucky to work with a very close team who always encouraged me. They always made me feel like my contribution to the team was important and treated me the same as any other employee and not any differently because I was an IP. They were not just great colleagues but great friends.
I was lucky enough to have two line managers while at Nissan, both who always had my best interest and pushed me so that i could get the best out of my placement. The bar has been set high for managers in the future.
Due to the nature of my jobs in events there was always peaks and troughs of work load but there was always something to do. There was not a moment during this placement when i was bored.
There were a number of projects which I took ownership of throughout my placement. Especially towards the latter end of my placement when i had proven myself, i was given a great amount of responsibility and the more I demonstrated I could do, the more I was trusted with. This is definitely not a tea and coffee placement! A lot is expected of you and you have real ownership over your responsibilities.
This placement really develops the transferable skills which can be applied to university and work in the future. The core skills that you learn from working in such a fast pace environment with such high expectations really makes you push yourself. I will definitely carry the skills i have learnt this year to help me with my final year and beyond.
The Company
The Head Office is quite a corporate environment however, it is still friendly.
Nissan have a very organised placement scheme which is set up really well.
I was able to attend two training courses throughout the year which were very useful
Subsidised Canteen
Company Car
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
Seeing what the graduates are doing during my placement has made me very interested in working at Nissan in the future.
The Culture
During my time at Nissan, we have had two all employee events which were fantastic! One which involved a scavenger hunt round London. We also had a few sport and social outings after work. In addition to this, we had department days out too.
I lived at home but the socialising costs were standard unless you go into London where it is more expensive.
When the IPs and Grads went out together, we didn't go out in the area we worked in, it is better to venture out.
There were sports and social events.
