The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement year at IBM. I have been given a lot of responsibility and was never treated as 'just an intern'.
I have always felt valued by my colleagues, However, a lot of my team where based around the country so it would have been nice to have had some more interaction with them. Although there was always somebody who I could reach out to in my location.
The guidance and support given by managers and other colleagues is excellent. Not only are they always willing to help you, we also have an excellent foundation community in place. Combined with the support by my managers plus the foundation community I always felt that I could reach out and ask for guidance.
My role was always thriving and my job role was really varied. It was never a case of doing the same task over and over and that was something I've enjoyed most about my placement. I was also given a lot of ownership for the tasks which I was given and I was able to take on a lot of responsibility
I have been able to progress and develop throughout my placement due to my manager trusting me and allowing me to move from assisting to ownership of tasks. I was given a lot of responsibility, especially in the last 6 months of my placement and I was able to voice my opinion if I thought something could be improved
My placement year at IBM and the skills I have learned have been invaluable and are not something which you could learn in a textbook! I've been able to put into practice a lot of examples which I've been taught at university and that will really help with my degree when I return to university for my final year
The Company
I was based in the London office and there was always a community feel. Although the office was very busy at times and finding a space could be a bit tricky! I enjoyed the busy atmosphere that my office provided
Very well organized. I especially thought the foundation community was too.
IBM was very invested in my personal development. There were always training courses available for me, whether online or in person. IBM employees were also very much in favor of shadowing an during my time I was able to shadow some senior people, whilst also attending meetings/events to shadow others.

Very - I have applied back to the Graduate program due to the exciting prospects and opportunities which are open to me. Plus the wide range of jobs which IBM offers
The Culture
This was one of the best parts of my placements. The social side was great, there was lots of interns at my office who were all very friendly and I've met some great friends
I lived in London - zone 2 and rent plus everything else is very expensive. IBM compensate for the fact that you're living and working in London and so offer a bit more money - which really helps!
The location is great especially in the summer! The office is located just along the river and is filled with bars and has a great vibe. The office is also very close to the tube or a quick walk into the city where the nightlight is fab - although prices can be a bit of a shock, especially when you're so used to university prices!
Yes - lots! There are events or sports activities. I was part of the netball team which allowed me to make more friends with interns and graduates plus it's a great social aspect too
