The Role
EDF Energy is a great company to work for with helpful and friendly staff and excellent opportunities to continue your career at the end of your placement. There is a wide range of opportunity with jobs requiring many skill sets.
All my colleagues have been welcoming and complementary of work that I have completed.
All the managers I worked for were approachable and always willing to help. This help extended beyond just the work required by them
How busy you are depends on the focus of the station at the time so tends to fluctuate, however there is always work available if you are willing to seek it out
I was given a reasonable amount of responsibility during my placement, however it is difficult to have complete responsibility for much due to the nature of the industry requiring you to be SQEP.
The skill I learnt didn't directly impact on my degree studies but they are all transferable skills that I hope to utilize. The confidence and focus I have developed through the year will also be invaluable.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was always positive and enjoyable. There was an excellent balance between focusing on work when necessary and having a casual chat whilst working. There was also a willingness among colleagues to help when required and increase other peoples understanding of a subject.
The placement could have been introduced better and there was some difficulty in beginning work which requires some improvement.
The company has many internal and external courses available if they can help your work, there is also opportunity/funds to complete courses outside of and unrelated to work if you are interested.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Above 25 days holiday
This could improve as I am currently awaiting my final interview to attend the Grad scheme, I am however confident of a career within the company.
The Culture
There were plenty of current IPs, Grad and past Grads that created a strong social scene among the younger generation at the station. The older generation on the station are also very sociable.
Had to travel for good nights out, but only 30 minutes and not a real problem especially with a larger group.
There was work football and a sport and social club.
