The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Computacenter, I do not think I could have asked for a much better experience. It was everything a placement should be. I was given the chance to rotate around all areas of the Human Resource Department which gave me a real insight into how a HR department works in a large company. I believe my experience was invaluable.
I felt very valued by all of my work colleagues. During my placement, I rarely felt like I was treated like a placement student. I was included in everything and my opinion was always listened to. My colleagues really welcomed me into the team and made me feel like I had been there forever! There was also a lot of exposure to people at all levels within the business which I think is great.
During my placement, I received a lot of support and guidance from my manager. I had a line manager who supported my throughout the year with regular 121's and within each area I worked in, I had a buddy who supported me during this period. I never felt I was left on my own at any point.
I was always very busy during my placement but at no point did I ever feel like it was too much. I was given ongoing projects throughout the year alongside my daily tasks, therefore I always had something to get on with and I was never bored.
I was given a huge amount of responsibility during my placement. I was even given the task of recruiting the new placement student who was to replace me when I left. During my placement, I was always given the chance to use my own imitative and to get on with tasks by myself. However, if i did have any questions, I always knew there would be someone there willing to help.
I believe my placement experience at Computacenter has enabled me to develop a lot of different skills that will help me when I return to university and beyond. During my placement, I gained a lot of confidence as a result of delivering a number of presentations to various people within the business. I was also given the chance to attend different training courses, such as a course in Microsoft Excel which I know will be very beneficial in the future,
The Company
There is a great atmosphere in the office. The different teams that make up the HR department are all spread out across the office, this allows people from different teams to integrate and get to know each other. Although everyone is very hardworking and focused, there is also the chance to have a little laugh and joke!
I think my placement was very organised. I had the chance to come into the office before my first day to meet the team which made my first day less daunting! I was also invited to a placement lunch to meet all the other placement students. On my first day, I was given a document which showed which areas I would be working in at what time and for long. This shows a lot of thought and effort had gone into arranging my placement.
Although I was a placement student, I believe the company invested in my personal training and development just like they would with any Computacenter employee. There are various learning and development opportunities that employees can book onto,
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
There is no graduate scheme within the HR department, however a large number of the old HR placement students have returned to the company which shows Computacenter are keen on progressing their interns.
The Culture
There was a good relationship between all of the placement students. We had monthly calls to catch up with one another and we did get the chance to work with one another on certain projects.
