The Role
I really enjoyed my time at L'Oreal. The culture of "word hard, play hard" can get stressful at times, but it also promotes a very collaborative environment.
I felt very valued by my colleagues, as they always appreciated my work and many times they have thanked me and showed their gratitude.
My manager has been super helpful since the beginning, Thanks to her I have learnt a lot, especially Excel. She was always very available and happy to help.
L'Oreal is a very busy environment, but the team is always happy to support and as long as you manage people's expectations, you are valued in the team.
I was given quite a lot of responsibility, as I also had to communicate with people outside of the business.
With my placement, I have been able to master key skills, like time management, innovation and teamwork, but I've also mastered key tools, such as Excel and PowerPoint. It won't help that much for future studies, but they will be key skills and tools for building a future career.
The Company
The atmosphere is good and collaborative, but it is a high intensity environment, so it can get stressful. To be able to fit in the team and the company, you need to manage your work load and to communicate with the team and manager in case you have too much on. Overall, the company is great and they always try to include social aspects within work.
Throughout my placement, I was changed two managers, which made the time a bit more confusing. Training and activities throughout could have been better organized, as we were communicated with not much advance the times and dates. Also the Graduate Trainee Scheme application could have been better explained from the start, as many people misunderstood a few steps.
I was given a few training opportunities, from Excel to Outlook to Presentation skills. On top of that, I was given a few training sessions for tools and databases, specific to my role. However, it would have been nice to be able to attend other training, where interns weren't invited, or have more opportunities for personal development.

Very. Within L'Oreal if you are found to be a good fit for the company, you are pushed to process quickly. They provide various opportunities, also within the Grad Scheme to find your better fit, in terms of division and role. Overall, the work force is young, and this is proof, how employees are given trust and process in their career, even internationally if wanted, very quickly.
The Culture
Many social events have been organized during my time at L'Oreal. This varied from sports social, to meals, to actual night outs. Thanks to the good connection of the company and the good effort put by the placement students, we managed to get a lot of free entries and discounted drinks.
London is very expensive. Going out, even just for food, made saving any money at L'Oreal really hard. The placement salary is competitive, however, given the cost of life students often found to be a bit short of money by the end of the month. On top of this, obviously rent is also really high and takes a big section of the monthly salary.
The area near the offices is very family oriented, therefore other than a couple of pubs, where most people go on a Friday there is a limited nightlife available. However, it is very easy to reach more active sections of London with the Piccadilly line, which is next to the office.
London is a very active city and provides ways for everyone to find something that interests them to do. Even during week nights, there is various activities that you can take part in. Also, within London there are many sport teams available to join. On top of that L'Oreal also tried to promote activities outside of the office, as they have a Football, Netball and Volleyball team.
