The Role
The internship was a good balance of structured events (walks, seminars, social events etc) and deskwork making it enjoyable and constructive.
I felt valued by my team when they had a high volume of work to do. When things were quieter I was less valuable.
The support and guidance offered was formal and informal. Formally HR would try and make sure you made the most of the experience. Informally the team would answer questions and give supportive advice.
Was never overwhelmed with work but could always stay busy.
Being there for 4 weeks means the difficulty and level of responsibility of the work is often relatively low. If you prove your worth you will be given more responsibility.
The experience will benefit my studies through development of soft skills. Time keeping, networking and keeping motivated are all useful for any degree.
The Company
This depends on the floor and team you're placed with. The office atmosphere at 33 Margaret Street is positive and easy-going.
HR organised the placement very well by creating a schedule before the interns arrived. This was very helpful throughout.
The training and development is an informal process. Although there are talks, the most effective development is through the tasks at hand. Also, Savills promote personal development through learning to take initiative and making the most of your experience.
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
The summer scheme is an effective way of improving your chances in joining the graduate programme. In the short term impressing your team and others can end in an extension of the internship.
The Culture
The intern group makes an effort to go for lunches and evening drinks. This is a personal choice rather than one enforced by HR meaning it depends on the cohort.
London is an expensive city so securing accommodation with family or friends is very cost-saving.
Bars were lively and usually full with colleagues. Thursdays and Fridays are good for nightlife.
These require initiative rather than being handed on a platter. If you ask around you will find these opportunities.
