The Role
I really enjoyed my placement and am happy that I chose 3M. As a whole, it was a great atmosphere, I got work that challenged me, and feel much more confident for future positions.
3M is great about creating a healthy environment where colleagues value each other's work and show recognition where deserved.
I was given a great amount of support, where I felt I could always ask for help where needed. My manager was able to give one on ones at least once a week, with any additional support where needed. And other colleagues were happy to help.
My schedule went in waves, but for the most part I was busy but hardly overwhelmed with work. Once in awhile things would get slow, but usually not for long.
I was given a great amount of responsibility, which surprised me but was wonderful in that it provided a challenge and gave me great opportunities for growth.
The skills and training I have developed throughout the year have been so valuable, and working for a large company can teach you so much about how businesses are run. I definitely feel more confident for my final year, as well as my future work life.
The Company
The general atmosphere is very friendly and open at 3M. The offices are open plan, so easy to walk around and chat. People are generally ambitious but not overly competitive.
Overall, my placement seemed very organised with a clear and helpful handover and a defined role.
The year included many training and development opportunities led by HR and others. There was also online training available where desired.

Future employment prospects are hard to say with the current situation everywhere and a limit on head count. However, they do have some grad schemes.
The Culture
It is pretty easy to meet new people at 3M. I went out a bit with my team, as well as with the other students which was nice to create better bonds at work.
Most students lived in Reading, which is a bit pricey, and travel in to Bracknell.
No one really goes out much in Bracknell, but in Reading and Wokingham there are some good bars and clubs.
There are some societies available, mostly sports. Also, always good to set up socials with people you meet and your team.
