About You
The scheme as a whole was very enjoyable. It was very well organised and thought out to ensure we got maximum exposure to the firm during our time there.
Each and every person treated us as equals to those at the firm permanently. We were always considered for work and the level of responsibility I was given for certain tasks made me feel very valued.
Everyone at the firm is very friendly and welcoming. I never felt that I couldn't ask someone a question and everyone genuinely wanted to make sure we got the most out of our time there.
It will help me to approach my future work in a focussed way and also to approach tasks with tight deadlines positively rather than feeling burdened.
The Company
The scheme was very well structured. We had a wide variety of talks and other activities throughout it which allowed us to see the firm from different angles, rather than just being sat at your desk all day.
The atmosphere at the firm is very relaxed and friendly. You really feel comfortable and its nice to feel so welcomed when you are only there for a short time.
The firm gave us an entire day and a half of training and development at the beginning of the scheme as well as daily talks on the different departments at the firm so that we weren't limited to knowledge of the two departments that we sat in during the scheme.
Getting involved in real work and sitting in the same office as an associate/partner allowed me to get a real feel of the atmosphere, what is expected of you and the typical day of an employee.
Since the scheme was 3 weeks you were well exposed to the company culture. Being independent allowed you to explore the department but being given a trainee buddy and a supervisor exemplified the importance they place on collaboration.
Understandably, there was a limit as to what tasks we could be given but the mixture of work and training really helped to secure my decision to pursue a career in commercial law.
Everything Else
There were several events throughout the scheme where we could meet other employees at all levels. Most of them were in an informal environment which allowed you to widen your reach.
The events were lots of fun. They really thought about the socials that they put on for us, ensuring they were fun as well as an opportunity to get to know each other better.
We had several talks on the pro bono and social opportunities at the firm.
I would highly recommend this scheme. It was a great way to get to know the firm and to experience what life is like as a commercial lawyer.
