The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. It gave me a fantastic opportunity to work within a cross-functional team to help develop my understanding of the food industry.
I felt like I was a real asset to the team. The projects I carried out benefited not just my team but my wider department and Waitrose as a whole.
I didn't feel like I was given much guidance from my line manager but found strength in my colleague who ended up acting as my mentor.
The first 6 months was fairly slow and I felt that I could have been given more responsibilities. The second half of the year really picked up. I was project managing several projects at a time and although it was challenging, I am so grateful for all the experience.
My year at Waitrose has been so beneficial. I have learnt and developed endless skills that will help me to progress in the future.
The Company
I had a fairly negative department who were very much set in their ways and we're open to new suggestions. However will some hard work and strong communications between colleagues it really turned around and I am now so sad to be leaving. I have worked with some fantastic, inspiring people.
I had to go and find work for myself. There wasn't much structure at all when I started. In a way this helped me to grow in confidence and seek new opportunities, however I would have liked more structure for my first few weeks.
The company was really supportive of any development I wanted to do. They encourage us to take any opportunities we can.

Working from home
Not many opportunities as I work in a very specific area so there is little move around.
The Culture
Loved my colleagues, however did not get on that well with the other placement students.
Rented a room very cheaply, 5 minutes for work - PERFECT
Reading is great to go out in
The partnership offers loads of activities.
