The Role
At times it is very challenging but is hugely rewarding.
It was very important to earn the respect of your colleagues. But if you are consistent and fair your opinion is always considered.
I was very responsible for my own development. It means you have to be driven to improve but it is helpful to improve in the long run.
You are worked really hard but it's great for self development
After a short training period I was responsible for running shifts within a store. Then, after gaining some experience I was responsible for large areas of the stores performance, This can mean running a team of twenty people which is a very rewarding challenge. I was then given a project which which was solely my responsibility.
I have become a lot more driven and organised. Going back to university with my new found work ethic will hopefully put me in good stead for my final year. I have also developed my professionalism and believe I would feel confident approaching any business going forward.
The Company
The culture is very professional.
Large changes were taking place in ALDI over the course of the placement. This meant the organisation wasn't great and we often had plans changed at the last minute.
I have spent a lot of time under different people, so this was largely dependent on who I was working for at the time. On average people were committed to developing people.
Above 25 days holiday
Whilst I have enjoyed the year the Area Manager Role does not appeal to me as it will be hard to achieve a good work-life balance
The Culture
Yes, we were encouraged to live together and it meant we had a similar social experience to university.
Swindon is very cheap, rent was £275/month
Terrible, but we got very lively anyway
Nothing provided by ALDI
