The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement year, it has been very hard work and requires a lot of commitment but it is the most rewarding job I have done. The company upholds an exceptionally high level of professionalism and everyone has been very helpful when needed.
I have felt valued throughout the year, by both senior management and management below my position. I have felt particularly valued by the other IPs I worked with as well and it was great to have a support network with people experiencing the same process I was undertaking.
Each IP student is assigned an area manager mentor to assist and guide us through the year. I have felt my mentor has been approachable all year and has helped me enormously when I have needed assistance. Management within store have been brilliant and I have felt continually supported.
There has not been a single day where I have not been incredibly busy. I was working 50+ hours a week but I enjoyed being continually challenged. It is possible to be sucked into the Aldi lifestyle but I managed to make time for social activities I wanted to do as well.
An exceptionally high level of responsibility; on the placement programme you are given the chance to take complete control of a store and manage a number of different store teams. I was surprised how much responsibility we were actually given on placement.
I have been able to develop and learn numerous skills that I can take forward in my degree and future jobs.
The Company
There was an enjoyable atmosphere within the office part of the role, but an extremely high level of professionalism is expected. The atmosphere within store was very friendly and the whole store teams were always very welcoming
Very clear structure throughout the year, I always knew what was expected of me and which area of the business I was to be working in.
I had very clear training and had consistent feedback and updates from senior managers.

Very, there is the oppourtunity to return on the graduate scheme as an area manager
The Culture
Yes, there has been many opportunities to socialise with my fellow placement students and we have made the most it where possible.
Fine, I was fortunate enough to live at home which made things easier.
Ok, we were always able to go out for dinner, drinks clubbing etc, and made trips down to other cities when we wanted a change of scenery.
Sort of, I made time to join a sports club, but with trying to maintain a social life and working 50 hours a week it is a bit more challenging.
