The Role
A very enjoyable experience, the team were great and very welcoming. From day one I was made to feel like a member of the team as opposed to "the intern". The atmosphere in the office was great, the leadership team were great, the work was engaging and we were given a lot of responsibility.
Extremely, as mentioned above I wasn't "the intern" I was a member of the team. I was given accounts, targets and although supported allowed to run with deal cycles on my own. On the other hand to this I was expected support the teams with their ad-hoc requests which they were extremely grateful for.
I was given all the support that I needed. I was assigned a "buddy" on day one who was extremely supportive. She let me get involved with as much or as little I wanted and was always available for a chat. She let me run with some of her accounts and gain valuable first hand experience. Aswell as my buddy, my managers were fantastic. Although all being extremely busy they always made time for for a chat, whether that to be to discuss difficulties, discuss new tasks they wanted me to do or to simply land some praise - all of it was very worthwhile.
This went up and down with no real rhyme and rhythm. Some days I was quite quiet but this allowed me to do take five and do my own thing, whether that be learn from the extensive range of information available on the various portals, research my accounts further or network with different departments and take on new tasks this was at my discretion. On other days I would be extremely busy and at times overwhelmed with customer calls, ad-hoc requests, meetings, admin etc. but it was all a balancing act.
Heaps. As stated above I was given accounts and a target just like every other member of the team. There was no-one breathing down my neck & making sure I was doing it this way or that way. It was down to be me and results not process driven. This I thoroughly enjoyed and valued.
With regards to my degree it has been helpful as now I'm going to base my dissertation around a topic that I was unaware of before starting at SAP. With regards to beyond that it has been very helpful, I have professionalized my skills, developed new ones that and feel a lot more confident now about applying for Graduate roles in the future.
The Company
Very good. Positive, lively and a good laugh. The intern network is strong (43) in total so it was always a good laugh in that aspect but then the team I was in were a good laugh also, always game for a chat and it made for a thoroughly enjoyable working environment.
Not the most organised, it took me a couple of weeks to meet my manager but this was due to someone departing the business before I started so I guess couldn't be helped. There is no real structure either but this is also a good thing because tasks change from day to day so I had to be adaptive - this is closer to real life I suppose as real life jobs aren't that heavily structured.
Yeah a lot. We had two development days where an external company would come and train us on a number of things such as connecting with clients, negotiation and presentation skills - these were run out of the Hilton by Tower of London which was pretty good. There were also a number of training courses available online which we were welcome to do.

It's far from guaranteed as the early talent schemes are extremely competitive however I feel that a 13 month placement would put me in good stead when applying. I know a number of interns from last year who are coming back into the business so i'd say it is easily possible and their placement must have helped.
The Culture
Yes - very. We had some good social nights out with just the interns and are currently planning a Thames Boat Party to see it all of in style... as well as the social scene among the fellow placement students the social scene amongst the team was top also, we'd try to get out every other month and it was always be a good laugh. There is also a football team here which I was part off - as well as playing every Wednesday we've had a good couple of nights out and we are off to Germany next week to compete in a football tournament against all of the other SAP countries - this I am very much looking forward to.
London is London isn't it. Costs are always going to be high however there is always a happy hour not to far away which helped. The main office is kinda far out (by Heathrow) so it was a bit cheaper out there but we rarely went out there.
The actual main office out by Heathrow had no nightlife (unless you jumped on a 15 minute train to Richmond) however in my role we were welcome to work in the London office which couldn't be better placed on London Bridge so whenever there was a night planned or a big game of football on we'd head into London and work from that office - this was always very good.
Yeah fair few... I played football and as I have said am heading out to Germany next week for a tournament. There was also a netball team, there is also other things you can get involved with like the Christmas party or the Pride Parade which were all pretty good.
