About You
I really enjoyed this inshight week, It offered opportunities to understand all aspects of thechnology that are across KPMG. This did not only involve being talked at but experiencing it through a work shadowing day, The people were amazing and their friendliness ecouraged us to ask questions and participate. Also, this proved the company culture which they talked about. There are a few logistic aspects which could be improved (eg. temperature, closed off room) but appart from those small things the experience was amazing.
I felt extremely valued. We were encouraged to participate in every activity. During work shadowing and dinner even people at more seniour levels wanted to actively speak to us, Also, they were interested in our experiences, opinions and personalities. If we had a problem they'd do their best to accomodate us and help us. Also, the activities and skill sessions were directed at us and helped develop overall not only in the context of KPMG. The colleagues were amazing and easy to get along with as well. Due to our numers however during networking events where we were not split up it was a bit hard to always have a conversation with the person you were interested in.
They provided skill sessions with every activity. Also, they took care that we knew what we had to do when and that we would do our best and be offered the best possibilities to produce good if not amazing results. If there was any issue or any question they would try their best to adress it. It was impressive how much thought they put into the program and how hard they tried to make us experience and understand all the different areas of thechnology so we could make an informed decision. However, sometimes it could get a bit confusing when there was too much infrormation across a long period of time.
All the skills they tried to help us develop will help us anytime in life. For me they were straigth on the path of my degree and it made me polish what i learned in my uni even more. They hepled me develop and pointed out things which we tend to overlook but that are in themselves very important. Presentation skills are always useful, however what really impressed me was the session on personal branding as I wasn't that conscious pf the differences in perception. The most striking thing was when we found out what is really important in a job for us.
The Company
Each day was very structured. They knew when everything should happen and they were mostly on schedule. The activities were diverse and encompassed a lot of diverse topics of technology while being fun and accessible. They made everything very clear from the start and the programme as a whole had a very logical progression and it build up nicely up to the very last day. The content was amazing as well.
The people were extraordinary. The athmosphere was warm and friendly while also keeping studious (on the border of proffesional). It was easy to ask questions as everyone was really open and accepting and this was made clear from the start. Everyone from organisers to coleagues tried to help you and make you feel comfortable and to help you have the best experience. This emphasised the culture of the firm and demonstrated that their values are true.
The firm clearly put in an effort to help us develop and supported us all the way of the process while also offering a lot of skills sessions which will help us in the future.
The work shadowing was great and showed us how it would be like to work for a day in a certain area. However it could have been longer in order to fully understand what was involved.
The company culture was clearly conveyed every step of the way and we could see for ourselves how this was reflected in the people.
The content confirmed my existing interest in technology and made me realised other technology specific areas which I could be interested in in the future.
Everything Else
We met people from the company every day which was an amazing opportunity to get to know people in the industry and make valuable contacts.
There could have been a bit more time in these sessions, but it was still a lot of networking.
This topic was somewhat covered but it was nothing very specific.
This insight would be amazing for anyone interested in technology and in the roles women play in this field.
