About You
I enjoyed the placement very much. I found everyone very friendly and welcoming and was introduced to wide range of KPMG staff at different levels and stages in their career.
Everyone was was very welcoming and constantly encouraged questions. We were consistently told that there was no such thing as a stupid question and it felt like a safe environemnt to ask whatever questions, be it formal or informal.
We received a lot of guidance and support throughout the week and were able to ask questions at anytime.
We got to take part in skills sessions which provided valuable advice and tips on skills which would be useful at any stage in life in whatever career you decide to pursue, such as presentation skills, teamwork and personal branding.
The Company
All the sessions were well structured. After each skills session we were able to put in to practice the advice and guidance we were given. I thought that getting to work shadow a KPMG staff member during the middle of the week was good as it gave us a chance to have settled in and gotten some background knowledge on each of the sectors in Technology. The work shadowing then allowed us to gain a deeper understanding of the day-to-day roles and ask as many questions as we wanted, The assessment being on the Thursday was also well placed as it meant that we could be more relaxed on the Friday and we were not dreading or adding pressure to yourself to the end of the week.
Very friendly, not just the staff but also the other ladies on the insight week. I have met many kind, interesting and friendly people here.
The fact we got to meet quite a few KPMG partners, gave the feeling that they had invested a lot of time in to us on the programme and were very encouraging of entering a career in Technology whether or not it was with them. Furthermore, we got to take part in skills sessions to develop valuable skills for any professions, for example presentation skills. This gave me the sense that even if we didn't embark on a career in technology, KPMG still wanted to prepare us to be successful in whatever career we may choose.
The day of work shadowing was really valuable in helping me understand what it would be like to have a full time role as I got to see first hand the kind of routine and environment the staff at KPMG experience.
From all the networking opportunities, both formal and informal, were very informative and the day of work shadowing was by far the most helpful in understanding the company culture as I was able to talk to and observe a wide range of employees at KPMG.
I learnt a lot about a career in technology and what it would be like to work for KPMG.
Everything Else
We were also given a lunch allowance during the week.
We had many networking opportunities, both formal and informal. All staff were very friendly and welcoming of any questions you wanted to ask, whether it was about how they got to their position or how they found their work environment.
All the events were very friendly and relaxed so it felt like you could ask whatever you wanted, no matter how random.
From speaking different employees we found out what activities they could get involved in outside of work.
It was definitely a very enjoyable and invaluable insight week.
