About You
I absolutely loved the week with KPMG. I learnt a lot about the different roles in technology and how about KPMG as a company, as well as making fantastic contacts and friends.
From day one we were made to feel very welcome in the building and all of the staff that we encountered were very friendly and made us feel like we were one of the team.
The guidance and support throughout the scheme was amazing. If I had a question about anything I didn't feel any hesitation to ask someone, and everyone was so helpful and they were always happy to help you and answer any questions.
The information from the week will help me to better decide what area I would like to go into in the future, and the networking skills which I learnt in the week will not only help me in university but further into the future as well. I also have a much better knowledge of careers in technology which will help me better decide what I want to go into. We did a lot of public speaking through presenting our ideas, which will help me in presentations at university and in other situations.
The Company
The insight was very well structured, there was a lot of information to take in during the first few days but this really helped with the shadowing experience and the assessment which took place later in the week.
The people that I was on the insight week with were very like-minded to me and I had a great time getting to know knew people and I really enjoyed the activities that we did throughout the week. All of the staff members were so friendly and enthusiastic and so the atmosphere was great.
The company had obviously put a lot of thought and effort into the week, as it was very well organised and a fantastic experience. During the work experience, the KPMG employee which I was with invested a lot of time into showing me what her team does and explained lots of things to me about technology. We did a lot of public speaking throughout the week which really enhanced my public speaking skills and I think the week helped me to grow as a person and take forward a lot of useful skills.
Throughout the week we learnt a lot about the company and the kind of people within the company. I also learnt a lot about the things other than work that you can do in the company, such as volunteering to help homeless people get back into work and playing sports within the company. I got a great feel for KPMG and after only a week I feel that I know I would be extremely happy to work there in a full-time role.
As I have already mentioned, I learnt a lot about KPMG other than just the work side. I learnt about the opportunities to volunteer in KPMG and to play sports etc, which gave me a great insight about the culture of the company. Meeting people from different areas also showed me how friendly and welcoming everyone in the company was also gave me a better insight into the ethics of KPMG and the kind of people that work there.
I now have a much clearer idea of what area in technology I would like to go into, and how they all link together. We learnt about all of the different areas and met people from each area too, which helped us to decide which we were most interested in.
Everything Else
I was paid for the week and my travel costs were reimbursed very promptly.
Throughout the week we met so many members of the firm within different areas of technology, which was great for networking and to learn more about the different areas. We also had a couple of networking events including a dinner with employees including partners and managers which was an amazing opportunity to chat to some great people with a lot of experience in technology.
The dinner, which I mentioned previously, was lovely. We all sat down together and I felt very welcome and like I was a part of the firm. All of the networking opportunities were great and the people I met were great and always seemed happy to chat with us and answer any questions.
Without a doubt. Even if you have not considered a career in technology before but you are curious as to what it entails, I would recommend this insight as it was very insightful and really opens your eyes as to how important roles in technology are in all kinds of different companies. I learnt a lot during this week and it has given me a much clearer idea of what are of technology that I would like to go into. I honestly really enjoyed the whole experience and I would 100% recommend this insight week.
