About You
It was a really good insight into the Real Estate industry. As I have worked in other industries including Finance and Law, Savills actually provided me with a clear path and clear options to pursue and I thoroughly enjoyed every single minute of the Internship. However, it was very unfortunate that I joined during the historical UK referendum regarding the EU membership and that really affected the whole department with stagnant investors, meaning that I was sometimes without work for periods.
Although I was assigned to 2 teams, I dealt mostly with the graduate surveyors and the surveyors of the teams. I was rarely involved with any of the directors and barely had much work or interaction with them. I was sometimes unaware the different people in the teams and was not properly introduced to everyone, which made the experience a little disappointing.
Being assigned a graduate surveyor was a very key difference that my other internship experiences. It was a massive help and relief that I had someone who was dedicated and close enough to me for me to ask questions of and to guide me during my internship. She was also extremely helpful in explaining all the questions I had about the industry and was extremely patient with my new experience of Real estate.
I developed some key skills and mastered some key software's that I believed would be key in future work. The information regarding the real estate industry and the academic route towards it was also hugely helpful and is a lot more helpful than what I would gain by researching myself.
The Company
The programme was decently structured, with a clear schedule of group work, although the amount of work given was autonomous to the teams you were assigned to. Which means that the amount of work or how busy you are, are entirely dependent on the day.
The team atmosphere was delightful during my insight and I would look back fondly of the moments I had with team.
The company was very autonomous in their investment, although there was a written and numerical text that we had to do which hopefully would reflect well on myself.
Nice introduction to the company culture with the people and the events being key.
Nice introduction to the company culture with the people and the events being key.
Gave me a day-to-day insight into the daily work load and the work I would be expected to be given.
Everything Else
There were a couple of networking opportunies provided by the programme but I would have preferred to have more networking events.
The networking events involved both company directors from different departments and also one with another company, which was great in meeting new people in new industries.
Mostly I found out through bulletin boards.
