    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I loved my time at Taylor Wessing. From the work I was asked to do to the presentations, talks and social events everything was really interesting and enjoyable.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • One of the things that really makes Taylor Wessing stand out as a firm is the way every person is made to feel valued. Everyone I came across really took the time to get to know me personally and any work I did around the office really seemed to help towards something - I wasn't just left photocopying or scanning.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • My trainee buddy and supervisor were excellent, they always checked in on me to see how things were going and never once made me feel I had asked a silly question. Alongside them and the HR department who were always on hand I felt really supported during my 2 week placement.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • During my placement it confirmed that work in a commercial law firm was exactly what I wanted to do. I loved the varied work I was given and had the chance to develop some skills that actual trainees and associates need. For example, I was asked to draft a lease report for a particularly confusing lease and was told this was something even associates always have to do.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The vacation scheme had the perfect balance between working in the office, various talks and presentations about the firms different departments as well as social events. The talks in particular were very helpful for future decisions relating to training contract seat choices. Additionally, the first day of the scheme was very smooth and allowed everyone to settle in quickly.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere at Taylor Wessing is extremely friendly. The firm really does have an open door policy, every office door was always open and at any time in the day I could knock on any door to ask a question or ask for work without being turned away. Everyone at Taylor Wessing was very happy, sociable and personable which really made the atmosphere and my time there stand out. Also, the trainees were loads of fun on the socials allowing my fellow vac schemers and I to really bond.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I feel like the firm invested a lot of time and effort into everyone on the placement. I had a partner sit down and chat to me about some work I did for him and tell me about some of the projects he was working on for almost 2 hours. I know how precious partners time is so I felt he really invested his time in me.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Witnessing the firms culture with my own eyes was invaluable in gaining a true insight into life at Taylor Wessing. The culture really is forward thinking, innovative and ambitious.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The focus on sessions which involved presentations from every different department were the most helpful in deciding on a future path in terms of becoming a trainee solicitor and even an associate in the long term. They explained what work for trainees involved and examples of different deals or projects each department had worked on which gave a really useful insight.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was happy with the pay I received.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • The chance to network and meet other employees at the socials and drinks events were excellent. More generally, the chance to meet other employees around the firm was really what you made of it, we were free to email anyone in the firm, ask them for a chat or even knock on different office doors to network and meet people and everyone at the firm was really accommodating.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Brilliant.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • This was not the main focus during the placement however I asked around about various sporting events. I found out there was a netball team which I loved as an avid netball player. The firm is also involved in other sporting activities and I know they had a firm triathlon coming up.
