The Role
Highly enjoyable internship with a great team around me.
I was easily accepted by the development team and we worked together as a strong unit.
Sufficient guidance was received when required. I was expected to use my own initiative where required due tot eh nature of the role.
I was only bored for a couple of hours at the beginning of the placement. When problems arose I was incredibly busy, putting in 11hour days to get issues reolved etc.
In a unique situation, I was given responsability above and beyond that expected of a summer intern. With two senior people on holiday, I was in charge of a very important component despatch.
I developed very useful teamworking/leadership/communication skills that you'd struggle to pick up in university, as I had a greater interaction with different levels of staff, from programme executives to apprentices.
The Company
High pressure environment, but with a great team around me we still managed to have a good atmosphere and things never got too stressed.
Rolls-Royce HR are very experienced with the itnern procedure. A couple of initial teething issues regarding getting the required clearance etc, but overall it was well organised.
I received sufficient training for the role, but it's too direct to really be applied to other aspects of my career. The company tracked my development throughout the placement, culminating in an end of internship review, highlighting future development needs.
The 2 graduate schemes look to be very good, and with a good end of placement review, my prospects look good.
The Culture
Brilliant bunch of interns, with social events every week.
Living in Clifton in Bristol is not the cheapest place in the. The cost of living / socialising is relatively expensive, especially when compared to toher cities.
Can't fault Bristol's nightlife.
Not Rolls-royce activities, but living in bristol and knowing a lot of people meant that there was always stuff going on.
