The Role
I enjoyed my placement thoroughly even at demanding times.
Very much so.
Support was always there when needed.
Constantly Busy and Proactive with ongoing Supplier Issues.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility and trust to take onboard a various amount of tasks and problems.
Thoroughly in terms of Time Management and Strategic Approach
The Company
Within my office the general atmosphere was always very disciplined, focused and quiet. This is very common across Manufacturing, Automotive and Engineering Industries. But as I was not predominately office based and was based around other areas, external and internal to my workplace this did not effect me.
Some form of structure was put into place by UK operations, but in terms of a handover process and start up it was not organized as well I initially expected. But this changed more and more over time as my responsibilities gained over time as so did the level of trust and experience.
At the start of our placement we were sent off to a 2 Day course, to learn about the logics, systems, control and mindset of Faurecia, which will be found to be like for like in any area or country which was very helpful. Once I was placed within the allocated plant. The level of personal training and development was exceedingly high, as I was taught to take on board tasks ASAP, such that I could conduct all given tasks in a short period whilst developing myself at the same time.
National Travel
The future employment prospects within the organization are incredibly high as our HR Team and Colleagues are always persuading and promoting the Graduate Programme as this is a very dynamic,. focused and driven Programme which is set over 2 years. The Programme (VIE Programme) is based internationally such that you can experience and gain valuable knowledge and experience whilst integrating and merging with other cultures and mindsets, to become globally confident which is a key skill to have within the global market of today. There is also another UK Graduate Programme in place which is just as appealing which is starting in late 2016/17. The prospect and likelihood of staying with Faurecia is high, as they invest and train all students to the highest possible standard.
The Culture
As lots of our students are placed nationally we did not have a chance to have much of a social scene with them, but with all staff on site considering there is an average of 700 staff per shift. The social scene was very established and good, as everyone respects each other and is sociable too which is the best possible way to work. We also would arrange to go out for meals/drinks occasionally with the team or go to our managers house for meals/social events, which was a great way to bond with everyone.
As I was commuting from Birmingham over 20 miles a day, the cost of transport was relatively high at around £40 a week for fuel as well as my rent/bills coming to £90 a week. This was down to my own choice as I could have lived within Lichfield where the plant is located, but the social scene is very quiet and is not comparable to a city. Commuting on a daily basis is the best option even with the extra expenditure as outside of work, the social scene was pleasant.
The nightlife consists mainly of Pubs and Bars within the area of work, as Lichfield is a very traditional and historic city which has not developed much in order to stay with tradition. For students who like a more quiet relaxed scene this is ideal, however if you do prefer a much more busy, active nightlife scene a city is best for this.
Within our workplace there was not many outside activities that took place. Apart from our departmental social gatherings that took place every three months or so.
