The Role
I really enjoyed my placement. I was put into a department that really suited what I said I enjoyed in my application.
I did feel valued. It was only a small department so felt that any work I could do was a help.
My supervisor helped me a lot throughout my placement, from training me on the various pieces of equipment when I first started to helping me with my write up/poster presentation at the end of my placement.
At the beginning of my placement, up until around end Otober/beginning November is was not busy at all. But as my placment progressed I became a lot busier.
Not too much as I was still learning new things at the end of my placement. I did feel responsible/needed for some of the tasks that I was set.
It will definitely help my University 3rd year project as I am a lot more confident in the lab. It will also help me for future jobs as I've gained a lot of experience and met some great colleagues.
The Company
Many people were leaving and so atmosphere could be a bit down at times but considering the circumstances it was fine.
Very well organised. Had two projects lined up when I joined. However, my department moved in may/june which affected the time at which I finished my project meaning I was a little pushed for time at the end.
There were courses/poster days/work days out, especially for the sandwich students.

As the site is moving down to cambridge, the future career prospects don't look as appealing as I wouldn't be interested in moving there as appose to Alderley Park. However the Graduate Scheme did look appealing as we got to speak other grad students about it.
The Culture
Yes. There was an 'AZinspire' group which held regular lunch time talks/presentations. Very easy to make friends with the other students and found we organised a lot of days out between ourselves.
Very reasonable. Rent and bills were the cheapest I've ever had to pay. Restaurant and Bars where a bit pricey but everything else was very reasonable.
A couple of bars and nightclubs. Plenty of very nice restaurants. It was very good for a town.
Yes. Lots of charity events and town events i.e. treacle market every final Sunday of the month.
