The Role
It has been very enjoyable and I have learnt a lot, though there have been some things I would have liked to do which I haven't been able to, specific pieces of work etc. I'm not too worried about this as I have made others aware and I should be able to take these opportunities when I return.
The team here is fantastic and I have received high quality feedback from those I have worked with. The structure is very flat and it's easy to talk to anyone, regardless of how senior they are.
I have had a very proactive line manager who has actively searched for work for me if I have been light and she has sent the message out to the rest of the team with regards to what kind of work I'd like to do. However there have been some projects where the technical lead could have been more transparent.
For the most part I had a good amount of work. I very rarely felt too busy, and there were a few times when I was a bit light but generally it was good.
Given that I was only a placement student for the most part I was assisting on tasks, but I did lead one deliverable with guidance from a senior member of my team and I was able to do some of the work due to my expertise in a certain area being greater than that of the rest of the team.
I am not sure how the skills I've learnt will help me for my degree. It's a different kind of work, but I'm hoping that I will generally have a better work ethic. In terms of work after university the skills will definitely be incredibly valuable.
The Company
Generally a very good atmosphere. Animosity between colleagues is non existent and everyone is very friendly.
Very well organised, I felt like an integral member of the team, not just someone stuck on the side.
For specific training not an awful lot, but I have learnt new skills through the work that I've done.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
I have been offered a job on the graduate scheme on the condition that I achieve a 2:1 in my degree.
The Culture
Lots of social events, there is a burgeoning graduate scene at Atkins.
Bristol is getting more expensive, but it's still affordable if you don't go too mad.
A ridiculous number of pubs and bars in walking distance from where I live. Loads of events going on all year round.
There probably were but I was doing enough anyway that I didn't find too much
