The Role
The placement was kept interesting as I was given a large range of work to complete during the placement, I was also very surprised by the amount of responsibilities given during the placement year. Opportunities to go on workshops abroad to countries such as Spain makes work life much more exciting.
Everybody gets on very well at Siemens therefore meaning you are able to speak to people easier which greatly enhances collaboration in the workplace. I felt my opinion was valued highly by my line manager on placement as he allowed me to get on with work without much input from there side. This trust seems to be the case through the whole company.
I have been given plenty of guidance during the start of my placement with many meetings set up during my first couple of months, I feel I benefited greatly from having a graduate who was experienced in the department with me during the first month. Further into my placement I have had slightly less support however this could be due to my development meaning it is less of a requirement.
There have been several occasions where my workload has not matched the hours I am scheduled to complete during a week - some weeks I will have too much work others too little - however on average my workload has been perfectly balanced this is due to my line manager monitoring this carefully during our one to one sessions every few weeks.
I feel I was given much more responsibility than I felt a placement student would be given as I have been able to work on several projects without too much input from my line manager, he would be there however when I became stuck on certain topics.
I worked within a project office team which has been focused on project process - I feel the project management skills I have developed will help me in project management modules back at university - however I feel skills such as time keeping will help me across all subjects as I will become more productive and pro-active.
The Company
The atmosphere is professional however everybody is very nice and welcoming therefore meaning they are easy to speak to and gain experience from. There is a dress down Friday which helps to pick up the mood at the end of the week. Due to hot - desking it is easy to move around the office and sit with people you feel can help you with your work.
The placement was well organized for me - this was due to a good induction week which helped us to gain a good understanding of the different departments in the organization - the work itself at the start was less organized however due to everybody being busy it was harder to pick up new tasks - as time went on it got easier as I started to understand more about the topics.
There were three training sessions off site for team building, presentation skills and future development - further to this info sec training was also provided. My line manager spends plenty of time with me each week teaching / helping me to develop skills.

The employment opportunities are available for when I complete my university course and have been spoken about on a couple of occasions however there is no interview at the end of the placement therefore meaning you will have to progress through the same process as previously which will of course mean the advantage of knowing the people and processes at work,
The Culture
There is several placement students on site so there is opportunities to socialize with colleagues however this is up to the yourselves to set up social events - I am also part of a group of people who play football after work one evening a week, which has been a great opportunity to meet new people. There are many opportunities to join sports groups advertised.
This is a downside to working in Poole - the area itself is a really nice place to live however the cost of living is exceptionally high compared to other cities I have lived in. On average rent for accommodation could be around £120 a week. The cost of food can vary however can be quite pricey for what you receive.
Well nightlife in Poole is non - existing however it is lucky Bournemouth is only 20 minutes away which is a well known nightlife scene as can be proven by the many stag do's you see out at night in the town. Night busses are available which helps reduce the cost of the evening as well ! (No need for taxis!!)
Yes there are plenty of opportunities advertised on social media to get involved in activities - there is more to do during the summer months as being in Poole it is a seaside town!
