The Role
I really enjoyed my placement as I had learnt a lot and was able to be responsible for my own desk. I enjoyed meeting clients and candidates and making fees for the business.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. I won office award and a regional award for my efforts. I think Hays are good at rewarding people who are doing well.
I had good contact with my managers with weekly meetings. I also spoke about my plan for the day everyday with my managers. They always supported me with any queries I had and tried to help me with any issues
I was busy everyday. As I was running my own desk, there was plenty for me to do and focus on
I was given a lot of responsibility. I had a whole area covered by myself and was allowed to meet clients and candidates on my own.
The skills I have learnt will help me be more organised at University in terms of my studies. I also think my time management has improved as I now understand how much work you can do in a normal work day. My confidence has also improved so I feel speaking to a full class of people and/or presenting will be easier as I am used to speaking to a wide range of people.
The Company
The atmosphere in office was always driven and busy which I enjoyed. My colleagues are driven which makes you want to be the same. My team all welcomed me in from the start and I had good relationships with most people in the office.
The placement was well set up in terms of training and development as the training I had did come at the right time with my progress. My desk was all set up and ready for me when I started and I could get settled straight away
I had online training in the first few weeks, I also had training in the office for the first 12 weeks and then additional training in London after that. I feel that Hays invests a lot of time into their staff to make sure they are up to the standard they are looking for in order for the consultant to be successful
Travel loan
The career progression in the company is good as long as you hit the targets that are set. The career path is clear so you would know what you are aiming for.
The Culture
I think there was a good social atmosphere every Friday as we all would go down to the pub. We also got to go on team/office rewards and everyone made an effort.
The cost of living is quite high in Cambridge as it is expensive to live in.
It isn't great but there are some good bars/clubs in the area
There were a few charity opportuniities but not many other than that
