The Role
I really enjoyed my time at Hays and feel that I have definitely improved my skills on both communication and time management. I would definitely recommend working for an organisation like Hays especially if you are someone who enjoys pushing yourself, target driven and someone who want to challenge and improve yourself as a person.
Very valued. I was not treated as an intern but a full member of the team, which made the experience much more exciting. My team continually provided me with support and gave me praise on the projects and tasks that I managed. Throughout the placement year I continually managed to achieve a high level of job satisfaction not only from the success of each task completed but recognition from both my directors and staff peers.
I felt that I was given a lot of support not only from my primary manager but also with other senior members of the team. I also feel that I was given support from other members from different specialisms and different teams which helped widen my knowledge base and confidence.
Working on compliance, I felt that I had a lot of work on a daily basis which was daunting at first but later became the norm and easily manageable especially with the support of my team and also through the organisation process that I implemented. Working in this environment, productivity was key and there were always new tasks and challenges to complete whenever I had extra capacity to support the team.
Although I was only the intern, I felt that I was given the right amount of responsibility. I was trusted in maintaining our team’s compliance levels, candidate management spreadsheet and contract administrations. I was also trusted to assist when consultants were on leave which enabled me to experience candidate and client management processes.
During my time at Hays I was able to greatly improve my communication skills. My confidence has definitely improved which is a general quality that will help assist in future challenges that I may have to face. I have also generally improved my systems skills including Microsoft applications and I have also learnt how to be more flexible and adaptable to my surroundings which is very key in the future especially within a professional working environment.
The Company
The atmosphere at the office was very professional. I was very fortunate to have worked for a really good team that worked hard and achieved a lot of success. I felt that that the senior members of the team also managed to make each week interesting and motivated the team in fun and exciting ways.
The beginning of the placement was definitely harder in terms of how it was organised however I feel that my managers really helped me throughout the whole process, showing me how to carry out every task first and monitoring my progress and success after. I felt that I was constantly provided support and found the internship events very useful and informative.
I provided with two weeks training which covered training classes on all aspects of recruitment as well as an out of office training day to help familiarise myself with the system. Throughout the year we were also given different training courses to complete from health and safety, security and compliance and general training whenever there were new updates to the systems we were using.

Future employment prospects with Hays are very appealing especially since we have already worked for the business. Hays provide a wide variety of benefits from a welcome back bonus upon passing probation, ability to transition back to the same team and career progression. Apart from the monetary benefits, you are already familiar with the organisation which greatly help in the success of your career at Hays.
The Culture
My time at Hays allowed me to both interact with my team but more importantly build a close knit of friends through our intern let events. As previously mentioned we were more treated as full members which therefore allowed us to also create strong friend relationships which was especially fun whenever we received group or team incentives.
Living in central London was definitely more expensive than most however there are many different ways to save and still have an enjoyable experience at the same time. The company incentives provided by Hays were usually free which helped me experience life in London. By far the most expensive aspect of having a placement in London is the living costs however this can be easily reduced through house shares with other interns.
The nightlife was very exciting especially within the area I worked in. The office I worked in was based in Victoria which is very central and close to bars and nightclubs. The company also provided everyone with a discount at our local pub and also helped show all the great places to visit whilst in London.
The company provided many sporting activities that was offered to everyone from football events, regular yoga classes, running groups, Pedi bus and charity fund raising events. In general there were many activities provided but I mostly found that simply living and working in central London, there were many activities out of work that we carried out as a team.
