About You
I thoroughly enjoyed my two weeks at Knight Frank. On top of being in the office, time was spent visiting various sites and properties around London. I also enjoyed meeting Knight Frank employees from a number of different London offices. Meeting new interns and others at the mixer and training sessions also provided a good chance to meet others in either the same situation as I or who had been through it in the past.
As I've only been here for two weeks unfortunately I am not experienced enough to have been given great deals of responsibility. However, as time has progressed I have been given more responsibility hand have been set more important tasks. I feel that the work I have done over the past two weeks has been valued by my department.
A good balance. I have been fortunate enough to have a great team who are constantly there if I need to ask any questions or if I need any help with a task. Having said that, I have been given enough independence to learn and develop my own skills too.
As it's the summer I won't be able to answer this directly until October. However, I do believe that I can take a lot from my time at Knight Frank. The interpersonal skills that I have improved here will be taken with me and will no doubt prove valuable at University and beyond. As my degree is somewhat property related, I will be able to apply some of the knowledge I have gained in my studies next year. Furthermore, the contacts that I have gained in the brief time that I have been here will also hopefully prove beneficial in the future.
The Company
The structure was ok. Although there were a few events spread over the two weeks that aimed to train interns or enabled us to network, I don't feel that there were enough in the internship. Furthermore, although the overall structure of the application process seemed thorough, I got the impression that as I was only here fro two weeks, the work and responsibilities I was given do not exceed that which would be given to someone who had been given work experience through a contact at the firm. I feel that if there is a thorough application process and organised internship programme, the roles given within in department should be more formal.
The atmosphere within the company and the department I was in were great. The general atmosphere both friendly and professional and struck a good balance between the two.
We were given one training session on attitudes and behavioural characteristics which was thoroughly interesting. More sessions like this would be warmly welcomed.
A good understanding. Throughout my time here I asked a great deal of questions about the company and what it's like to work here. I also observed a number of employees and gained insight into what it would be like to work at the frim full-time.
A good insight. On top of observing employees and learning how they operate, I have gained knowledge of the company structure and how the firm is composed. I have understood the importance that the company places on its professional competence and reputation as a market-leader in the industry.
This experience has given me a good insight into what the industry is like. It would have been nice to spend time in another department to see how the respective roles change throughout the company, but overall this internship has showed me that this is the property industry is where I would like to work after university.
Everything Else
I was paid £6.50 per hour from the hours of 09:00-18:00 for my 2 weeks. A large proportion of this money was spent on travel costs and so after taking into account these costs and food/drink costs there isn't much left over. Compared to remuneration for internships in other companies or industries, this is quite low.
Yes, there was one drinks event on the final Wednesday evening of the internship. Another of the main events is a networking drinks that takes place outside of my internship time and due to this am abroad. This event should have been organised within the timeframe of the internship.
The drinks event was good, it was a good opportunity to meet other interns and employees of the firm.
Yes, There was constant talk throughout the internship from employees about the opportunities available outside of the office, mainly sports-related.
Yes I would as it has proved to be a valuable experience.
