About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the four weeks I spent at Savills. Everyone was very helpful and friendly, by the end of the four weeks I felt a valued member of my team. It was also great having such a large intake of other interns as we had a lot of organised events and we could share our experiences.
I felt valued most of the time, however, some days were a little bit quieter (mainly due to members of my team being on annual leave) which meant that I then did not have enough work to keep me busy. Most of the time my colleagues would hand over work and responsibility to me.
I received just the right amount of guidance. Organised meetings throughout the placement ensure I had the support I needed. Although, we were also left alone to work things out and therefore very much independent. The HR team were fantastic.
Being a Non-cognate student the skills I have learnt will be very useful to me when applying for a completing a masters in real estate. I have been give a lot of good advise during my placement and would not hesitate to contact Savills in the future if I needed anything else.
The Company
The insight was extremely well structured, I feel I have been on a journey over the last four weeks. A welcome pack at the start of the Scheme gave us everything we need and we had a timetable of events and an online calendar that could be viewed by anyone who wished to look. I particularly enjoyed the departmental overviews, I found these very helpful and informative. I will leave with a much better understanding of the property industry.
There is an excellent atmosphere in the Savills Margaret street office. The layout of the office is well et-up for interaction between colleagues. Everyone was extremely friendly and happy to help.
Four weeks was a fairly brief period time and for this reason I feel I received little personal training. Despite this I felt that I did develop both soft skills and property related skills over the four week period. My Mentor sent me her university lecture notes for me to revise and read through in the evenings.
I found the insight very helpful in giving me an insight into what it would be like to work at Savills. I worked for the same hours as most of my team - attempting to get in before the first person in my team and leave after the last person left. The departmental overviews also provided a few slides in the day in the life of themselves.
I believe I have gained a good understanding of the company culture. Savills encourage an open and supporting company culture. I feel that the Summer Scheme reflected well on Savills
Everyone of my days at Savills was spent differently and therefore gave me a well-rounded view of the different tasks one would expect to carry out during their property career. The Summer Scheme has now confirmed that I would like to pursue a career in property
Everything Else
I was paid well for my four weeks work and had the option to claim expenses if I wished
Yes, although there were few external networking events. Savills did however put on social and networking events for us both for just the summer interns and with graduates and Savills employees.
The networking events were well run and very helpful. I found by the end of the four weeks my confidence had improved and I was therefore able to approach anyone in the room.
Yes, although more emphasis could be placed in this. I had the opportunity to participate in a mixed hockey Savills team and attended the property triathlon where I was able to meet other like minded and sporty people and ask questions
Yes, definitely. I think this short but sweet internship has left me wanting to pursue a career in property. I think Savills is a great firm to be part of and the Summer Scheme is well run and full of great people
