Vacation Scheme Review

I really enjoyed the summer vacation scheme.

Everyone took the time to explain the background and relevance of the tasks I was set. This made me feel as though I was able to make a genuine contribution.

The graduate recruitment team were in daily contact. My supervisors and trainee buddy were very attentive, ensuring that I always had work and giving me thorough and constructive advice and feedback. They also took the time to get to know me on a personal level.

The vacation scheme gave me great insight into legal practice and allowed me to develop skills (like time management and teamwork) that I believe will be useful in diverse contexts. While the group exercise helped me to gain in confidence when presenting to an audience, the firm's focus on clarity of communication has also made me more aware of how I present my ideas both in writing and verbally.

I thought the scheme was very well structured. The three days induction were thorough and a nice opportunity to bond with the other vacation schemers before moving into our allocated departments. I liked that we spent the duration of the placement in one department, which gave you the opportunity to get to grips with some of the basics and show your competence before progressing onto more complex work. There were plenty of group sessions and socials integrated into the scheme, which provided great opportunities to meet some of the current trainees and other members of the firm.

There was a great atmosphere both among the the vac schemers and within my department. Everyone was very positive and friendly, and seemed to genuinely enjoy coming into work.

There were lots of departmental briefings, training and BD sessions, and opportunities for personal feedback.

I feel we got a very honest representation of how the firm operates day to day (with the benefit of a few extra social events).

I got a good feel for the firm's open and friendly culture. The people I worked alongside were very welcoming and there was no immediate sense of hierarchy. Moreover, everyone in the department seemed to along get along well, which made the atmosphere especially positive.

The vacation scheme has reaffirmed my commitment to pursue a career in law.

There were plenty of social events and networking opportunities throughout the scheme.

I really enjoyed the social events. They were a great opportunity to get to know the other vac schemers as well as to meet other members of the firm.

Some of the vacation schemers played for the firm's netball and rugby teams at the Corporate Games. Through some of the work I did, I also got to know more about the firm's pro bono initiatives.
