About You
I absolutely loved it! From the very start of the Vacation Scheme I felt extremely welcomed and was always involved in anything that was going on. It was also very clear that Taylor Wessing places a great emphasis upon getting to know each vac-schemer as an individual. There is an incredibly personable working environment – it really was fantastic. Of course, at times the work and nature of tasks can feel quite overwhelming, however, there is a fantastic level of support to help.
Lots! Throughout my time in my seats I always felt like a valued member of the department. From the start I was trusted with ‘live’ work that was of key importance – to which people were always willing to answer any questions or offer support if needed. However, I was also encouraged to use my intuition to attempt the work in a way I thought best. Having both a trainee buddy and associate supervisor was also incredible useful. It gave me the chance to get to know the departments in far greater detail.
Time management, attention to detail and networking were all key skills that I was able to develop during the vacation scheme. Whilst it quickly became apparent that practicing law is incredible different to studying it, I have the confidence that through balancing an active workload and reviewing key documents, my coursework and final-year dissertation should benefit greatly as a result. I also have an increased sense of self-confidence through meeting new people on a daily basis and adapting to a dynamic working environment - a trait that will also help with my future career.

The Company
The vacation scheme was extremely well structured. Graduate Recruitment were fantastic in ensuring people were able to sit in departments they had an interest in – as well as offering ‘Focus on’ sessions that gave a detailed look into the workings of all the firm’s departments. We were also given a timetable of the events that were happening – such as socials (cocktail making, dinner and ping-pong), group presentation meetings and pro-bono opportunities.
The atmosphere was fantastic. Despite the hefty workloads, people are really open and willing to have a chat. There was a distinct lack of any hierarchical feel within the firm, with partners being just as approachable as anyone else. Also, all the others on the vacation scheme were great and we all got on extremely well which really showed how well the firm recruits genuine individuals.
Even though the Vacation Scheme only lasted for two weeks, I really felt as though the firm was interested in my development. Formal feedback was offered via an appraisal with my supervisor at the end of each week. This was great in understanding what I could be doing to improve, as well as understanding what things I had been doing right. I was also offered ongoing feedback from those who I had completed work for. This was great to give me something to work towards on a day-to-day basis.
The Vacation Scheme was fantastic way to develop an understanding of life at Taylor Wessing, as well as witnessing the culture within – I cannot recommend it enough. It is clear that everyone at Taylor Wessing enjoys working there – one reason being due to the friendly and open working environment. Also, not one day during the Vacation Scheme was the same which created a really dynamic environment that everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy.
See above.
For me, the Vacation Scheme was my first experience of life at a city law firm (beyond first-year Open Days) – and I absolutely loved it. Being able to experience and contribute to the workings of such a large and fast-paced firm was fantastic. I knew from the very start that it was something I want to do in my future career.
Everything Else
I was prepared to do the scheme for nothing, so to be paid was an added bonus indeed!
Yes, lots! Partner lunches, trainee dinners, drinks receptions and various social events were all arranged for us to network and speak with various members of the firm – including the Managing and Senior Partner of Taylor Wessing! Within each department there were also various opportunities; such as client meetings, which were brilliant.
They were a really good opportunity to get to know the firm through the opinions of those already working within it. It was also a great opportunity to get to know the others on the Vacation Scheme - as a result we quickly got on really well.
Yes. There are various sporting teams and other activities that you can get involved with. It really shows that Taylor Wessing acknowledges life outside the office - something other law firms do not. On my second day I was invited to play rugby with members of the firm - however, owing to unforeseen circumstances I was unable to attend.
Yes! I honestly cannot recommend the scheme enough. If you think Taylor Wessing may be the firm for you (which it almost definitely is), then you must apply! You will not regret it.
