About You
The month was a really great experience to get an idea on what valuations and agency involves, however my mentor often didn't have work for me to do so I had to ask around the office to see if any other members of different departments had work.
I was given work by other departments such a research for development comparables which was taken on board and then used. However I was asked by my mentor to do some due diligence work and find comparables which I did to by best extent and saved them. I then found out, when looking through the file, that someone had redone all of the work I had done without going through it with me to explain where I went wrong if I did. Made me feel like the work I was doing wasn't being used for anything and a slight waste of time.
I was given support but not support from my mentor a graduate from a different department who often gave me more work to do and more responsibility when my mentor didn't give me anything. I also got support from other team members when i was struggling with some pieces of work.
I've learnt how to find comparable evidence which will help support my valuation modules but that's all I've really achieved here.
The Company
I feel like when I arrived nothing was really planned for me, I was given bits and bobs day to day which would help speed along the process but wasn't given a large task with responsibility... I was wondering if this was because I've only just finished my first year at uni and so had a little less experience than the other summer scheme students.
The general atmosphere was very welcoming but everyone tends to keep themselves to themselves while they are working.
I wasn't given much responsibility however my confidence with phone calls to find information has improved.
It helped me understand that you have loads of projects going on at once and with a full time role in the company you do have very busy days.
I got an insight into some social events which I was apart of but other than that I didn't really get a good idea.
I got a better insight into the different departments and what they each involve. I would say it was very valuable and helped me decide I don't think I would be interested in a future in full time valuations.
Everything Else
I was paid, I'm driving to a destination tomorrow so hopefully I will get reimbursed for expenses at least I should be.
There was a lunch and learn, although employee were more interested in sticking with their friend groups. A drinks event in the evening which was nice because I was able to meet people from the Rural team who I never would've met and they were really nice and made an effort to communicate. There was also an office summer party but unfortunately I wasn't able to attend this event due to a prior engagement.
The drinks in reception was the best one which I attended as it gave me a chance to meet the rural team, which is a department I didn't really get an insight into, and I met a lot of people who were welcoming and interested in what i was planning on doing in the future.
I found out about a dragon racing and cricket
It was a good opportunity to find out what the company offers, however I don't feel like I was fully trusted with the jobs I was given and I wasn't given many tasks to complete even when I asked if there was anything else I could do.
