The Role
I really enjoyed being able to get stuck in from the beginning, working on high-profile projects in the COO EMEA Management team. Everyone in the office was so welcoming and made me feel settled very quickly into the role, particularly my line manager and buddy.
My colleagues were always on hand to help out, no matter how small or big the matter was. They were also very forthcoming with work where they thought I could bring something to the table, and it is nice to feel valued in the team, which is definitely something that stands out for me in UBS.
The training week in the first week of the summer internship was dynamic and interactive. It covered a lot of things but in different formats with different hosts/presenters which made the training week very interesting and fun. The online training modules also helped to expand on this initial training whilst clarifying anything that was not made clear in the training week. My line manager and buddy were always on hand for any questions I had, and although my line manager was based in Amsterdam for half of the summer internship, we had frequent communications via email, call and online chat to maintain an open line of conversation.
Throughout the majority of the summer internship, it appeared to me from speaking to other interns that I was getting more work than them, but on a level which kept me busy but was not overwhelming me. The work was organised by my line manager to ensure I got a good level of exposure whilst I was at the bank, with each piece of work completely different, so I did not find any of it monotonous.

The Culture
During my summer internship, I was allowed to get involved with volunteering work with UBS, and it showed me the importance of volunteering to UBS and highlighted the massive impact it has on the community.
