The Role
I enjoyed my internship very much, I was apprehensive beforehand whether I would like it and would get on with the people, but my fears were soon put at ease. I had a great time working for UBS and would recommend doing their summer internship programme to anyone who is looking to get into banking, as the knowledge you can pick up is truly invaluable if you want a career in finance
I felt very valued by my colleagues, from the moment I arrived everyone was very welcoming and friendly, and not only that, but people were very supportive of the work I was completing too. I was treated as if I was a full time member of staff and given a good level of responsibility so I felt as if I was a valued member of the team
I was given plenty of support and guidance by my manager when I wanted it, but I like the fact that I was allowed to get on with my tasks when I understood how to do them, and felt that I was given the perfect balance between being supported and being trusted to do a good job
I was fairly busy on a daily basis, I always had work that I could've been getting on with, but at no point during the internship did I feel like I was getting bogged down with too much work, it was just the right amount to keep me busy but also mean I wasn't completely snowed under
I feel that I was given a good level of responsibility for an intern, I was trusted with full access to some systems that not many people had access to and also played a key role in a major project within the department whilst I was there, so I felt like I was given a good amount seeing as I was only with the team for 8 weeks
The skills I developed during the internship will be invaluable in later life, not so much for my degree but certainly for getting a graduate job and I am very glad that I had the opportunity to work with so many different people to develop these skills, such as communication, time management, and also skills regarding the use of Microsoft Office which will help massively
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was quite alive, there was always people on the phone talking and people in the office talking to each other, plus almost everyone was happy to have a laugh whilst working, which really added to my personal overall enjoyment of being in that particular working environment
In my opinion, the internship was very well set up, in the first week we had plenty of talks detailing things that we should know for our internship, and the quality of the training that we were given was second to none, we had lots of opportunities to ask questions and also to learn a great deal about our specific business areas and also UBS as a whole
They invested heavily in us, the first week was practically non stop training and personal development activities so it was something that UBS clearly heavily priorities heavily. We had personal branding activities, business area specific training, and lots of training based around compliance and how to behave whilst on the internship

Company Parties/Events
The prospects are very appealing, the fact that the company invested so much time and money in our learning and development says good things about UBS as a whole, but now from personal experience I can say that the culture of the company is fantastic, people are always happy to answer any questions people may have and everyone was very friendly
The Culture
There was a really good social scene with the other interns, most days I would eat lunch outside with them if the weather was nice enough and I wasn't too busy, and most Friday nights we would go for drinks at bars near the offices, it was one of the really good things about the internship that there are so many like minded people there who are all working together to help each other out
I lived at home during the internship so my costs were relatively low in comparison to other people, but the cost of socializing was fairly expensive, if we went out for drinks it was generally five pounds per pint and even more for other drinks, it was only generally on the weekends that we went out anywhere so it wasn't too expensive overall
The nightlife was really good, the office was in the centre of London so there were plenty of places to go for drinks after work, plenty of good nightclubs around and also plenty of nice restaurants and other places to go, so there was lots of choice for going out in the evenings after work or during the weekends
There were lots of opportunities, UBS has a dedicated community affairs team which organize all of the charity events that UBS employees can take part in, and interns are highly encouraged to get involve in these activities, personally I took part in an afternoon of mentoring sixth form students and conducting mock job interviews with them to help prepare them for upcoming assessment centres and university interviews too
