The Role
Throughout the 6weeks you were given respect and responsibility to take ownership of your work. Overall it was a great experience from start to finish.
At Grant Thornton every single member of the company is friendly and helpful. Whether you are a intern or a manager, you are valued the same.
Everyone was always patient and willing to help you in order to let you learn and develop.
95% of the time you are busy and organised with work. Very occasionally you would complete your work and struggled to get hold of your in charge as they were extremely busy so you couldn't request more tasks. However this was a rare occurrence.
You were always trusted with tasks and given responsibility to take ownership of your work. The help was always there if you ever became stuck, but you never fault like you weren't given trust to complete tasks independently.
Throughout my time I have been able to develop my communication skills when building relationships with clients and customers. As well as that I have been able to improve my presentation skills. My knowledge of audit and my general business acumen has significantly improved. All of these skills I have developed during my internship will assist me in my degree and career in the future.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was always a friendly and professional one. The facilities in the office are all fantastic. As well as that it was a work environment where everyone had respect for one another. You felt like you could always go over and discuss a problem or have a general chat with anyone if you needed which was relaxing.
From the first day until the last every aspect of the internship was incredibly well organised. You were always told in advance where you needed to be and at what time. Other members of the audit teams were already expecting you and were usually in touch with you immediately to organise things with you.
The company took us all to a training facility for a few days down in High Wycombe where we undertook a training course in 'how to develop your business impact'. This consisted of networking events and workshops with the purpose of improving your presentation skills. This was a really fun training course which I learnt a lot from.

From a personal point of view, I can say confidently that the thought of working at Grant Thornton is an incredibly appealing one. I really enjoyed the people at the firm and it is a company where I would be proud to work for in the future. I know employment prospects in the company are good as many people on internships and placements do go on to get job offers, which is a great way to get into the job market.
The Culture
This is one of the main reasons I enjoyed working at Grant Thornton, it was a company filled with sociable and active employees. After my 6 weeks I have already been on numerous social events and nights out with fellow interns and colleagues who I hope I go onto being friends with for a very long time.
As I was a student at the University of Manchester, and my office I worked in was in Manchester I found it really practical and cheap as I was able to live in my student house throughout my internship. With Manchester being a city it is obviously expensive to an extent, however it ultimately depends on your preference with eating out, travelling and socialising. I found it manageable.
As a student living in Manchester I was an expert on the places to go after a day at work or which clubs to go to. Therefore I may be slightly bias however the nightlife was really good and lively. There was always something to do and everyone in the office was always happy to join. So I definitely can't complain about Manchester's nightlife and would recommend.
Obviously I was only there for a short period in 6 weeks, but the company always tried to encourage sports events outside of work. One example being a company football tournament held in Glasgow which was advertised and invitations were offered to myself and other interns. Also, the company recommended all interns got involved in a charitable organisation with 'Lendwithcare' which was a fantastic initiative to be involved in.
