The Role
I loved my Travel Industry Marketing Placement with Disney Destinations International. I couldn't recommend it enough and I really didn't want to leave!
From the minute I walked through the door, I felt extremely welcome and part of the "Disney Family". I was definitely not treated like an intern. I was given great responsibility and was included in fun projects. I was always thanked for my hard work when I had done a good job.
When I started my placement, I wrote a list with my manager of tasks/experiences I wanted to complete throughout the year. Every task was ticked off with the help from my manager and fellow colleagues. There was always the opportunity to get involved with other teams in the department. Also, everyone was so willing to help with any queries that I had throughout the year.
The workload increased throughout the year as I was given greater responsibility. I was never twiddling my thumbs as there was always something that I could do. When I had a large workload, I never felt stressed or overwhelmed as there was always others to help if needed.
When applying for placements, I was advised to avoid large companies as they wouldn't give you much responsibility..but this was certainly not true. I was given a great amount of responsibility and this increased as my confidence grew throughout my placement.
The experience that I have received has been amazing and it will definitely assist in my final year. It is also great to have on my CV and the experience gained will really help when applying for graduate schemes or potentially returning to The Walt Disney Company upon graduation.
The Company
The atmosphere was always fun and there was a great moral amongst the team. I was sat right in the middle of the office as well which helped with getting to know the team. There were also 6 other interns in Disney Destinations International. This made the year so much more enjoyable as we were all in the same position, we could help each other through the year and it was great for social events outside of work!
Because there are a large amount of interns at The Walt Disney Company, the set up of the work placement was very good from the day I applied to the day I left. I was also never treated as an 'intern', I always felt like a equal part of the team and I know that this feeling was the same amongst other interns in the department. It would however be great if there was a graduate scheme!
As stated previously, with the help of my manager I was able to tick off all the tasks I wanted to complete by the end of my placement. This involved spending a day with our creative agency, attend a voice over and work with the PR team. I would also have regular meetings with my manager to check up on my personal training and development.

I would love to go back and work for Disney Destinations International permanently! This would be made much easier to do so if there was a graduate scheme in place. However, there were many ex-interns in permanent positions whilst I was on placement, therefore there will hopefully be potential opportunities in the future.
The Culture
In Disney Destinations International alone, there were 7 interns including myself. We all went for lunch together every day and would frequently go out after work and on weekends together. We also have many plans after we have all finished at Disney as we are now such great friends. It would have been great to get involved with the other many interns within the organisation.
The cost of living and socialising in London is pricey and I certainly didn't save a penny throughout the year. However, the experience that I have gained completely out rules the cost! There are also many Disney perks in Hammersmith with discount in many places - a personal favourite was Happy Hour every hour at Be at One!
In Hammersmith alone, there aren't many places to go on a night out, although I had many great nights in the local pubs and bars that are there. However, it is so easy to get around London so there are plenty of other places nearby to go for a night out.
Unfortunately there wasn't many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work apart from the occasional drink! The boys would play football outside of work frequently, however there wasn't much for the girls after the netball team folded. It would have been great to have a variety of sports teams to get involved in - however I am sure that these will exist within the company, i just can't have looked hard enough.
