The Role
I have really enjoyed the time I have spent working at Savills, I have learnt quite a lot while working in here and I have gained a lot of experience by getting involved in my colleague's projects.
I have felt really valued by my colleagues, everyone has been super friendly and kind. Also, they have really helped me to integrate well in the team by attending team lunches.
I have received a lot of support and guidance by supervisor. They have always gone the extra mile to help me and make me feel welcome.
I have had a varied amount of work during my time spent at Savills and the workload has been great and easy to manage.
During my placement I was given responsibility to carry out a measured survey at a local office block.
The skills and training I have developed and received has been great and will definitely assist me in my degree because I will be able to apply the knowledge and experience I have gained to my studies. Also the skills I have developed will assist me beyond because I will feel more confident when going in to interviews for graduate jobs and working.
The Company
The general atmosphere in my office was very laid back, chilled and friendly. Everyone is very welcoming and people like to have a chat and get to know you, if you are knew and ensure you feel welcomed and also to make sure you are settling in okay. Also, the office atmosphere is a nice place to work in because its not loud and its not too quiet, just the perfect balance.
To certain extent my work placement was quite organised. I had a desk and computer already assigned and my email was already set up. I did not have access to my own phone however I was welcome to use my neighbours phone and dial in to listen to the Savills Graduate Training overviews. My team coordinator did an excellent job in organising my placement throughout!
The company did not invest in me in relation to personal training and development. The only development and training I received was listening the Graduate Team departmental overviews and working with surveyors on a day to day basis. I did have to opportunity to attend the Regional Graduates day which also allowed to develop and expand my learning further.
Future employment prospects within the organisation are very appealing. As I have made a good impression on my team I have been offered a really good opportunity and further down the line when I finish my degree I plan to join the Graduate Scheme. The scheme is also very appealing as the support graduates receive at Savills is second to none.
The Culture
There was not much of a social scene amongst fellow placement students apart from the after work drinks during the regional graduates day. It would have been nice for their to be a social amongst fellow students.
The cost of living in the area was relatively inexpensive, Manchester boasts loads of shops/supermarkets and the transport links are really good and also inexpensive to use. The cost of socialising was also inexpensive depending on where you prefer to eat or drink. As there are variety of restaurants and bars there is something to suit everyone's budget.
I never went out in Manchester during my time here, therefore I cannot comment from my own personal experience. However, from what I have learnt the nightlife is pretty good here with a variety of bars and clubs to suit everyone's taste in music.
There was an opportunity to take part in a Triathlon which some colleagues will be taking part in. Apart from that there nothing else that I was aware of but I am sure there is plenty more opportunities throughout the year. The Graduate Team usually have fundraising events throughout the year which would be great to get involved in.
