The Role
I enjoyed my role to an extent. However at times i felt that the work i was doing was unvaluable and repetitive.
I had a positive relationship with my colleagues, however as a placement student i didnt feel as if i was a valued member of the team. I often found that people were too busy to make time for me when i needed their input and support.
During the on-boarding stage of my placement (the first 3 weeks) i felt that i had a good level of support. As my placement year went on i found that people in my team were often too busy to offer me support.
Some days i had absolutely nothing to do.
I felt that the majority of the work i was given added little value to GSK.
Over the year i learnt many valuable skills, many of which i will be able to reapply in future roles and during my studies. I was even supported by the company to study for a professional certification in IT service management.
The Company
Most people around the office were very friendly and welcoming.
I was supported.by the company to study externally led training courses. The costs for these courses were covered by the company. I also felt that the company's e-learning offerings were very good.
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Unfortunately the IT grad scheme does not appeal to me. At GSK the IT grad schemes focus more on technical aspects and not areas such as business analysis and project management.
The Culture
Was ok. There were some events that were quite fun such as the end of year boat party.
