The Role
Transport for London is an exceptional company to work for offering diverse interesting work balanced with a genuine enthusiasm for your personal development.
Everyone in my team was exceptionally welcoming when I joined and they have continued to show their appreciation for my work and contribution throughout the year. There is a good sense of team in the company and everyone I work with is keen to socialise in and out of the office.
Having previously done another placement before this one I came to the company with more experience than the average year out student. Therefore the level of support needed was less however I have always found support on hand at any moment should I need it. I have learn a whole new variety of skills this year.
I have a lot of projects that I am working on but there is a good system of time management for the team and we are never really required to work extra hours.
I have been given a lot of responsibility in my role and have taken on a lot of jobs and responsibilities that would normally only be undertaken by more senior members of staff. If you can prove that you have the ability to do something then you will be given the responsibility to do it yourself.
Building upon general architecture skills, I have learn a very specialised set of skills based around transport architecture and I expect it to influence the work I will carry out for my masters degree. These skills will also greatly benefit me for a job in the future as expect to return to the same company/industry.
The Company
The office is filled with a lot of people from many different job roles, the architecture department sits as a small area within that. In some ways it is good to have a variety of people to engage with in the office however there are also so many people that I have probably not even met a quarter of the people on my floor! TfL is a very big company. That said it is a really nice working environment and the office is in a great location in London.
Very well organised and my manager has consistently made sure I have the right work to benefit my personal development as well as giving me interesting projects to work on!
I have been on several training days, completed a qualification in project management and been offered multiple placements in other parts of the business to really drive my learning and understanding.

I am very keen to come back to the company. Unfortunately because I am doing a 2 year masters after my placement they are unsure as to whether they can guarantee me a job back in the company (as apposed to 1 year course where they can gaurantee a job). This is rather frustrating but I am hopeful to be offered a job on the completion of my masters degree.
The Culture
There is a large community of year out students and graduates (150 of them). So yes.
Couldn't live here. Everywhere near by is just standard London prices.
Well its London, so pretty good.
There are lots of sports and social teams to join, plus the graduate network puts on activities every now and again.
