The Role
I massively enjoyed my internship at savills. It provided me with a great insight into Real Estate, and showed me what a career would be like in the industry. I enjoyed working with the other staff in the office and they made my tyime with the company very enjoyable. It was very enjoyable.
The staff made me feel very much like they valued the work I was doing and the input i was giving. They bestowed a good degree of responsibility on me and gave me fulfilling tasks that felt like a positive contribution. They were extremely helpful and taught me a huge amount regarding Real Estate.
My supervisor/ mentor gave me great direction in whatever task I was doing, whilst at the same time explained all the Property theory and practical skills that went into whatever task I was doing. Whenever I had a question or needed help my supervisor was always willing to stop what they were doing to help me out.
On a daily basis I was relatively busy. I always had a task to do, however in most cases I could do it in my time and was relatively stress free, as it was more about me getting to grips with the different tasks than doing them as fast as I could. However at no point was I twiddling my thumbs with nothing to do.
I was given a good degree of responsibility, as particularly with the valuation team many of the tasks I was doing were jobs that the team would otherwise be doing, thus it was important that I completed them accurately. I certainly wasn’t given only menial jobs and some of the jobs carried with them a great degree of responsibility.
This internship wasn’t actually directly related to my undergraduate course of economics and geography. However I have finished this course, and will most likely do a masters next year in Real Estate. If this is the case then this placement has helped me massively to gain real estate skills and knowledge.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very friendly and sociable. People were very willing to make each other drinks and it was all round nice. It was however a very hard working atmosphere and there wasn’t an atmosphere for messing around. All in all it was a very conducive atmosphere for a well rounded working environment.
My placement was very well set up, as at no point was there a lack of organisation or a lack of direction as to what I was doing. This was impressive as my placement was at a time when many were on holiday, and following the EU referendum result many things were up in the air that required attention.
The company invested in me in the sense that they went to great lengths to teach me skills and knowledge about Real Estate, even when I would not necessarily be of benefit to them in long term due to my short stay with them. Unfortunately all the places on their graduate program were taken for this year.
Future employment prospects with this company are very appealing, as this internship has shown me how rewarding and enjoying it would be to work for Savills in the long term. This was confirmed to me after speaking to many of their employees, particularly those that have been with the company for a while.
The Culture
Yes we met a great many number of people, and many graduates.
I live in Manchester so I saved money in that sense, however in the city centre it is reasonably expensive, but cheaper than London. Cost of transport, in my case through the metrolink is expensive.
Very good
yes there were many different activities, mostly social events such as cricket/barbeque that I got involved in
