About You
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Nabarro. It was a great vacation scheme, and I think having three weeks instead of a standard two made all the difference. The social events were great, as well as the internal activities. I was able to attend departmental talks, have lunch with a range of people and really get a good insight into the firm and my department.
I felt valued from day one. My department were amazing and they made me feel instantly welcomed. I can't say enough how much I've enjoyed being part of the FIRA team and the work that I have been able to get involved with. Furthermore, everyone around the firm was so friendly and I spoke to a lot of partners/associates and trainees from different departments, which gave me a very rounded and honest insight into the firm as a whole.
I received wonderful guidance during the scheme. My trainee buddy was fantastic and the trainee who I sat with was always making sure I was okay, I had enough to do and that I understood what I had to do. This support made a big difference and made me feel extremely comfortable within this large department. Furthermore, the secretaries in the department are all very kind and at hand whenever I got lost or needed some admin help.
Being in my particular department has equipped me with a much more comprehensive understanding of funds work in commercial law firms as a whole. This is exactly what I intended to develop before arriving at the firm, and I feel like I can confidently talk about the information I have learnt regarding this particular area of law. I am sure this will assist me in my LPC going forward. I have also been able to consolidate communication, research and presentation skills throughout my time here and I know these will be particularly valuable in the future as a commercial solicitor.
The Company
The vacation scheme was extremely structured. There was a solid timetable, which was useful to follow throughout the three weeks. However, I would say that at times it felt as if the scheme was slightly too packed and time restrained, which meant that all the students weren't able to bond as much as we would have liked. Perhaps going forward, it would be useful to have some of the early morning seminars within the day to allow for more early morning preparation for Project Nabarro - I think this would really help in allowing for the students to have more time to bond over lunch etc.
The atmosphere was friendly, calm and enjoyable. At no point did I feel pressured in a negative way or neglected. On the whole, the atmosphere has been extremely positive and I would recommend this scheme to any future aspiring solicitor!
The firm has given great talks throughout the three weeks and I think this really helped us in developing essential knowledge for the future. Furthermore, out project Nabarro helped us to cultivate the essential skills of a lawyer and the realistic element was fantastically challenging.
It helped me greatly. Being so involved within my team and having constant communication with people within the firm gave me a real sense of inclusion and heightened my understanding of the realities of day to day life as a lawyer at Nabarro. The extent to which I feel I have a good insight into what life would be like here as a trainee is extremely high.
Without a doubt, this vacation scheme has reflected greatly on the culture of Nabarro. Being on the vacation scheme, it was a lot easier to meet with people already working here and in doing so, it was very easy to gage that the culture of the company was friendly and collaborative and that the people were dedicated and hard working individuals who are never too short of a joke.
The content of the day was very valuable in understanding my future role as a trainee. Having actually assisted all the trainees within the department, I think I have grasped the type and amount of work I can be expected to do and in doing so, I have really enjoyed it. This enjoyment has definitely cemented my desire to become a commercial solicitor!
Everything Else
I think Nabarry pay very well in relation to some other City firms and I think for this, all the vacation scheme students are most grateful.
There were several opportunities set up by the firm to network and meet other employees and these were so useful in building interpersonal and networking skills, but also tring to gage the culture of the firm and what the people are like. As we have three weeks here, I have tried to speak to/have coffee with as many people as possible, so that I can come away with a very rounded and informed view of the firm.
The opportunities were fantastic. I can't say much else than that, but the atmosphere was always friendly and I always came away with useful information.
Yes - we had multiple presentations about external activities and it is evident that Nabarro really take these initiatives seriously, hence why there is so much importance placed on presenting them to the summer scheme students. We learnt about charity and diversity initiatives of Nabarro and some previous examples of this.
MOST DEFINITELY!
