The Role
Nice team, nice offices, enjoyed working with my colleagues and working with people outside of HP
We had communication and team lunches etc, but during the working hours I was mostly left to just get on with my job. If I needed help there was always a colleague I could speak too.
Had a 4 week handover period with the intern I was replacing, anything else that was new I just learned as I went along, usually a team member or a manager would show me.
Really busy at the start as it was all new to me, so working long hours and even at home to finish off. However within 3 months I was confident in the role and even started to change some processes to reduce workload for myself and team members, making some processes quicker. This eventually led to me having some spare capacity so I just asked for extra work.
Put together presentation for MD and senior management Providing sellout data for external companies, it only got checked by a colleague if there was a query with the sellout. Managing costs for the team with an external company we worked closely with. Approving various invoices. I was able to do pretty much whatever I wanted along as I could justify it
Developed excel, organizational skills
The Company
Friendly, tidy, I enjoyed being there Free fruit every week Canteen for drinks People sitting at desks, some hot desked, quiet rooms.
Was fine, met who I was replacing and spent a lot of time with them, we were treated like full time employees so no real special treatment. Proper taste of work life after university.
No formal qualifications. Developed excel skills and other qualities like being organised
Working from home
Problem with HP is that while some interns do come back, they aren't on full time contracts. More and more people being employed as contractors or are "outsourced" no you won't get the same perks as someone who is a full time employee. Easier for HP to get rid of you too. Major downside
The Culture
The interns did go out at weekends, I just cba
Rent between £285-£400 a month Didn't really socialize as I cba
Lot of clubs available in Reading that I didn't go too
I don't recall
